LittleRedFisherman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Dude, what a sweet rig!!!! I can't tell you how jealous I am. I have been looking at buying a jet for long time now and I think I have finally found the person to custom build one for me.I fished out of a Supreme for a week a couple of years back at Taney and man was that a really nice glass boat. I'm going with a Missouri made hull that is aluminum so I can start Blazing some trails. I learned from a good friend who has been showing some precious pieces of info for jet boating on rivers that a tiller is the most accurate and safe way to jet on smaller rivers. You also save on weight without a console. That is a Very sweet rig you are going to create some fun times:have-a-nice-day: Just curious, are you planning on going with a Blazer, I know they are really common to see just north of me, the Current and Black rivers up there are full of them? There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Members creekin bassnerd Posted December 15, 2011 Members Posted December 15, 2011 its cool, just thought I would throw that in so people reading this thread might keep in mind that me and my buddy will always be fishing in our canoes on 11pt and jets running upstream as the current pushes us down is always something that we have to be aware of. I appreciate jet owners taking the same consideration for us that we are forced to take. If there ever was a collision, my canoe and I, or my friend and his, would surely lose. thanks for letting me throw that out there.
Smalliebigs Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Just curious, are you planning on going with a Blazer, I know they are really common to see just north of me, the Current and Black rivers up there are full of them? yup, I am thinking of letting the My link build me a rig just the way I want. They are good people and river veterans.Sometimes it's best not to advertise that you jet boat on this forum, you may find youself getting chastized. That is a sweet boat though, you won't hear any chatter from me about jet boating. Smallies in the winter are hot action if you know where to go and have means to get there and it looks like you do now......good job

I'm pretty partial to ole Fred up at Current River Marine, he's got most of the business wrapped up here in my part of Clay county Arkansas. I would of liked to got my jet from him, but if you buy a boat from Supreme, you get the outboard at cost, which saved me a decent chunck of change. It's all good as far as jets and canoes, I see where "bassnerd" is coming from. I've been on the St. francis back in the day in alittle boat, and get swamped by a big one coming by, does tend to cause a rise in blood pressure. There's room for all kinds of fisherman if we just use common sense and cortesy. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Justin Spencer Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Smallies in the winter are hot action if you know where to go and have means to get there and it looks like you do now This is very true so be careful who you tell (poachers) as it would be real easy to wipe out miles of smallmouth when they are congregated in the winter. Please C&R and for sure don't keep any out of season. If you want to keep fish, goggle-eye gather in the same way once you get past the smallies, just respect them as well. Absolutely agree, we have had the same problem here at home in a hole where flathead catfish winter. There is a 45 day snagging season here, and you can keep two a day. Some where coming in there and keeping 50, our local game warden got envolved and nailed some of them. That being said, I don't even like the taste of bass that much, haven't kept a bass of any kind in 20 years, just love to catch um. IMHO, fishing rivers like these is a privelege, and should be treated as such. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Al Agnew Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 A little restraint goes a long way when it comes to winter smallies in places like you fished. It's a fairly small area that more and more people are figuring out, and I'm beginning to be a little concerned about the pressure that areas like this are now getting in the winter. There's a similar area that I fish occasionally, but I don't hit it more than a couple times a winter. I'd actually like to see the closed season for keeping bass begin in November and run to Memorial Day, because a few serious meat fishermen can make a real dent in the smallmouth population in places like you fished. On the other hand, catch and release fishing, as long as you handle the fish carefully, shouldn't do a lot of damage. I went a lot of years pretty much hating on jet boats as a canoe angler. I still think that some streams would be a lot better off if the technology had never been invented. But one can use a jet responsibly. Just don't get so impressed with how shallow they run that you push the envelope and run small, narrow streams. Not only is your margin for error pretty slim, but I still firmly believe that some stream sections should be left for the paddling angler to fish in peace. And that's speaking as one who now owns and loves a jet boat.
gotmuddy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I know that boat ramp! everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

gotmuddy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 That is part of the reason I like the south fork river so much. It is unpossible to use a big boat on it. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
