Exactly, just a reason to get semi-serious and learn some stuff. I'm really getting the warmwater bug lately, trout fishing just keeps taking a seat further to the rear each season. I kinda have a deminishing infatuation for Put & take areas... and there isn't enough "wild water" to go around. Not reasonably close anyway, my fuel bill this year has been insane, and I very seldom even go anywhere. Whaddaya think of this Bad Boy... Sili-lizard

You seem to put things out there and don't like when people disagree, because you have done it all and know it all. I am glad you have your experience, but do not advocate your opinion as fact. It is misleading, and for someone who doesn't enjoy doing things your way, it is incorrect. I wasn't asking for an argument, rather, I was asking that you do not present your opinion as fact as you have done. Present it as how you do it, not how everyone else should do it. Andy

Wayne SW/MO Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 While I agree it can be a little tougher to set the hook in a bass there are a lot of factors beyond rod weight that come into play. Long rodders have the advantage of a single hook that is unencumbered by a ball of plastic or the small throat of a treble. Another factor that goes beyond rod rating is the butt section of the rod, if it's soft for it rating then you'll obviously need more rod. I think the two most important factors are having enough rod to throw what you fish with and then worry about the lifting stregth. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
