I saw the weather forecast and had to sneak away from work. I figured with the weather this warm there would be a midge hatch and the dries would be working. So I made it down to my favorite creek, parked at the red gate, and made a dash for the double L hole. As a was tying up a griffith's gnat, a fish broke the water. My hopes held true with the gnat and a gold holographic crackleback. Ended up bringing ten to twelve to hand, and missed a bunch. There was one thing new to report. The hole above the double L was posted. A sign was put up saying it was the end of the public land and a tree in the creek was painted. I thought the public land went up to the waterfall hole. I'm wondering if the location is accurate or not. Any of the local fisherman know. My favorite hole is the next one up.

Here is some fish porn... The second was has great color.

Nice!!!!!

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

I pulled up the map and that marker might be correct. I wonder why it was posted....did someone do something stupid up by the campground? Has anyone fished the mile of creek between the bridge by blue springs ranch and the bridge just off the highway? Any good water there?

Mr. Lilley,

The Blue Springs Map on the first thread is for barren creek. Here is a good one: http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/documents/area_brochures/8405map.pdf

Are you talking about Camp Mihaska (Salvation Army Camp)? I usually always fish up to the sewage lagoons and not much past. Water gets skinny above there until you get right to the Camp, but never did very well there anyway. Signage of where the public water ends there has never been good. Have no idea how far up you can go.

I've fished the lower 1- 1.5 miles of the creek to where it dumps in to the Meramec and its pretty much devoid of trout. Lots of good holes there but never seen any trout. The middle section is probably the best water overall in terms of #'s and bigger fish.

Where is this double L hole at? ive been on the creek and didnt have much luck. i parked at the second lot after the road goes across the creek. my buddy's farm is on the other side of the conservation area so its not a total bust if I head down there. IM assuming the red gat eis the upper parking?

I don't mean to hijack this thread but does anyone else remember an article in the Conservationist years ago about the MDC shocking this crick and finding a 5 or 7 lb rainbow? It was a long time ago and my memory could be wrong as it often is. Or did Paul Dallas catch this monster Blue Springs 'bow and used it to impress his japanese geisha with trout ceviche and sashimi.

It was closer to 9 lbs, and yes it was delicious. Pan-fried it in a Tito-reduction demi-glaze with roasted peppercorns on a bed of fresh greens and sliced cantonese oranges. Wild trout is so much more flavorful than hatchery or feral trout. And yes, O-Ren Ishii, aka Cottonmouth was grateful to her master that night for serving her such a wonderful dinner . . .

As the orginal author of this thread, I do not endorse the very funny hijack of this thread. :secret-laugh:
