Njardar Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Whenever I go to my fly tying table my two Scottish Terriers are right there with me, and while I enjoy the company the first five minutes are spent opening baggies so they can sniff feathers and hairs. Even if I'm using synthetic material the ritual is the same. Anyone else have company when tying? If so, please share your experience. Charlie
troutbum479 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I have twin 8 month old girls that crawl over to my tying desk when I start tying. Usually sit one on my lap and let her watch. I predict they will be tying in the next year or so. arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
Jack Jones Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Wrench that photo is both funny and creepy at the same time. I love it. Maybe the best part of having a dog around is to clip their fur for that little extra tie-in....... Arofishing Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Two dogs. One has to be on my lap or on the table where I am tying. I don't need to open up bags for them though. My other dog, a pug mix, I've been collecting his hair for "Humphry hair caddis flies." Unfortunately, this past Thursday at Crane I found out that they don't float that well .
stlfisher Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I have a Siberian Husky and a long haired German Shephard who love my new fly tying room. The Husky lays on the floor and the German Shephard watches intently with his head cocked to one side. Had an oops moment when a size #22 midge shot out from my vice and into the Huskie's coat last week. Was barely able to find it in the thick coat...while the German Shepard was licking my face to death. Pretty funny to watch the Greman Shephard sniff all the feathers and sneeze like crazy. Totally freaks him out.
Flysmallie Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Material holder And he will eat anything you put in his mouth. Great way to get rid of the clippings.

I'm almost afraid to ask how you found out they don't float... the dog or the hair? One of my Scottys loves the pool but because his fur absorbs water he's only got a limited number of splashes before he sinks like a rock. I really need to keep my eye on him. Charlie

flyrodman Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 My labradoodle is notorious for taking any item that smells good and fits in his mouth off my tying desk while I'm away. He usually just stockpiles stuff under the bed until I notice things are missing. Luke Walz
