abkeenan Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Just heard BASS ban the A-rig... thoughts? I was in favor of the ban as I think using an A-Rig lended itself to just more and more baits being attached to the point that a chandelier of 50 baits was being used and that is just not fair IMO. That is speaking for tournaments and I think its perfectly fine for just recreational fishing. Now banning it seems like it might be even more of a headache than just leaving it alone. They also banned the "double fluke rig" or "donkey rig" as it is also known. Now that they drew the line on what is legal and what is not legal, who is one to say what can and can't be used (complying with State fishing regs.). What about using a jig as the weight on dropshotting? What about using a front runner in front of a spook? Why are those ok? Not arguing, just saying. Don't know if this will be good for sales of the A-Rig or bad. Will more state regulations ban it? More tournaments ban it? Will the lure being banned make it that much more desirable since its so good that is has been banned and cause even higher amounts of sales? Will be interesting to follow what happens.
Jason Essary Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 +1, believe it should be banned. Essary Construction - Honest work for honest price Custom Construction and Remodeling Call for free quotes (417)338-6418 http://essarycustomhomes.com/

BASS banned any double lure rig. One rod, one reel, one lure is what it says on their website, so no dropshotting with a jig as a weight, double flukes or front runners.
moguy1973 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 These are professional fishermen...If they can't catch a fish on a single lure on a single line on a single rod, they shouldn't be professional fishermen. Not sure how anyone would want to thrown that thing for an entire 8 hour tournament day anyways...that'd be a workout, those fuggin things are heavy! -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Stump bumper Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Being "Elites" and too good to fish with co anglers anymore it would not surprise me if they passed a rule against any bait that the company making it didn't pay big bucks to the club. I have started looking at those guys like reality TV, it is about real professions but you have to remember it is a SHOW. What bothers me is all the jack pots and small clubs might start using this a standard and that would be sad for all the people that have bought these rigs, new rods, expensive braid and lots of swimbaits they won't throw on anything else. I do have an A-rig, do live in Arkansas where it is legal and don't fish tournaments so it won't bother me because I fish only to impress myself and if I want to throw one I will just not very long, darn thing hurts. The best use for it is to throw off the side and run the trolling motor, might not be bass fishing but it is bass catching.
Feathers and Fins Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Here is what I want to know... Why is should it be banned? Keep in Mind This tactic of multy Lure if you want to call it that is going to be banned by the so called "Elites" of Bass when this is a common and accept practice. An umbrella rig has been around for years and thats all it is a mini-Umbrella. Its not Live Bait and its still the angler having to have the skill to use it and even more throw it. Its just another Lure and if its legal in the state why ban it? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
