I am always open to change, and do not fear it. I also know how I like to fish. There are just plenty of viable ways to catch fish that don't involve throwing a mess of wires with a bunch of baits attached to the ends. I don't need to actually try it myself to know that I would not enjoy fishing that way, and I also understand how I get satisfaction out of fishing... I personally would not get the type of satisfaction that I seek out of catching them on a school of swimbaits. I do understand that every angler is different though, and I respect that other guys might get the satisfaction that they seek by catching them on the rig. If you choose to fish the rig, I say good luck to you... I hope you catch a bunch and really enjoy it. Nobody should be having hard feelings or arguing about this thing. Nobody is a bad guy for fishing the A-Rig. Nobody is a bad guy for NOT fishing the A-Rig. I have no probem with anyone that fishes within the rules of whatever governs his fishing activity... whether he's fishing for fun and adhering to state regulations, or fishing in a tournament and adhering to whatever rules the tournament organizers have decided must be followed. riverfish Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 bobby lane is an elite pro fisherman that makes makes the cut something like 70 to 75 percent of the time and he got in through the federation based solely on his performance and results since then he has qualified for the classic in every year of his career and done well, thats why these guys are called "the elites" you can also go on you tube and see footage of guys like kvd, and many others when they were just average guys like the rest of FISHING to get to where they are today just type in bassmasters

In the NFL, when they get drafted, those guys get guaranteed contracts based on playing against other college kids. Some make it, and some don't... but they still get the money they were contracted to get. Also, some guys might have a good year or two, get a big contract awarded to them, then get hurt or just bust. Guys like Ryan Leaf (just for example) made millions from his draft contract and never earned it. If you make it in Bassmaster, PGA, or PBR then you earned it. If you don't perform and make the cut, you don't get a check... period. You either make it or you fail, based on your own merit. You are right though, in that you must be able to pay to have a chance. I was a good NCAA Division I golfer in college. I might have had a chance to make it big in the pros if I had only been able to afford to take a chance and go for it. It isn't cheap to pay entry fees, travel, equipment, expenses, etc. I suppose it is the same with bass fishing and pro rodeo. If I would've been able to afford to go for it, I might have had a shot... but I would have had to really play well, and also have a lot of luck along the way to make it. There are what maybe 50 pro QBs? I believe there are more than 1000 fishermen as good as or better than the elite pros, just like I believe there are not 1000 QBs as good as Bradys back up.

abkeenan Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The comparison between NFL and the Bassmaster's Elite guys is kinda silly. Football, basketball, baseball and some other sports that require more athleticism have a lot to do with God given genetics. A man that is full grown at 5'4" is going to have a real hard time making the NBA. A guy that can't gain weight and has the muscle mass of a 13 year old boy is going to have a very difficult time making the NFL as a nose tackle. The comparison between the PGA tour and the Elites is very similar. There are a limited amount of entries for the Elite Series just like there is only around 150 PGA Tour cards handed out each season. Are there fisherman out there as good as some of the Elites....probably.....the key is consistancy. Are there weekend golfers that any given day could spank some of the PGA tour pro's.....probably....but consistantly shoot 60s-70's.....prolly not. Both PGA and Elite are tough to crack and stay there because anyone can play golf no matter their physical stature and the same goes for fishing....don't need to be able to run a sub 4.3 40 yard dash, bench press 400lbs or be 6'8" to throw a lure into the water or swing a golf club. For that reason the playing field is huge and ultra competitive so if you are able to stay in the PGA Tour or Elite tour you are doing something right and deserve to be there while others don't. To say that there are 1000 sticks that could be in the Elite series I think is totally false, otherwise they would be bumping the guys at the bottom of the totem pole out.
