Members mattie Posted January 23, 2012 Members Posted January 23, 2012 So what was the fate of this fish? Im new to the area but i know what happened to Asian carp on the Illinois River where i moved here from, they made great fish meal. How did these come to TC? Also does the state acknoledge them in the water system?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 23, 2012 Author Root Admin Posted January 23, 2012 The White River was a warmwater river before the dam. It still is really. There are the same number of fish species -give or take- as Table Rock or Bull Shoals. Some of the guys fishing the tournament yesterday said they caught up to 20 bass on cranks below the Landing.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 23, 2012 Author Root Admin Posted January 23, 2012 The flathead was kept- don't blame them. Good eating.
mic Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Flat head in that clean water eating dumb trout. Hell yes that would be good eating.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 23, 2012 Author Root Admin Posted January 23, 2012 Nah... he's eating sculpins- just like the smallmouth we've been catching up there.
mic Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Nah... he's eating sculpins- just like the smallmouth we've been catching up there. I know, just being goofy.
Seth Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Flathead are delicious! Fish are always better from cold clear water in my opinion as well.
mic Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 My best friends family back home (on the Missouri River) didn't have a ton of money and lived on butchered cows, canning their garden, and wild game. They used to bank line for flat heads, bring them home in the afternoon, and put them in a cattle watering tank with an aerator and filter. They would feed them dog food for a week and "clean them out". I don't know if it did or not, but it was darn good eating.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 is that KVD ? Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
