Members MidgeMan Posted January 24, 2012 Members Posted January 24, 2012 I have never been to Roaring River nor have I ever fished opening day at any park but for some reason I have the wide hair to try it out this year. Does any one have any advice on what to use and maybe where to fish at with in the park? I would love to fly fish but I am not sure the crowds will allow it so information on both fly's and any other lures would be nice.
BackCastingGolfer Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Good luck...I wouldn't fly fish, standing shoulder to shoulder with a fly rod is never fun.
laker67 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 It is quite the experience that every missouri trout angler should endure at least once in his lifetime. Most people that you will encounter, will have the streamside manners of a grizzly bear. For some it is a tradition handed down from father to son. It may be the only day during the year that they trout fish. It will be quite entertaining to say the least. Use the same lures that you always use. The only exception is a black and yellow maribo jig. New fish love black and yellow. Good luck and be sure to report back.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Black and yellow marabou jig X2. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
duckydoty Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 A helmet with full face mask and some elbow pads. You'll need to swing them elbows alot to keep people 3 or more inches away. Hehehe. Naw, It's not that bad. You have to look at it as a social event rather than a fishing event. Go early to pick out a spot. People will be camping out on their spots all night long. You'll catch fish, but the fishing experience gets better as the day goes on and people start to go home. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Andrew324 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 As I said in Tim's earlier thread about Opening Day, I had the catch-&-release zone 2 all to myself as a fly fisherman. That doesn't mean that will happen this year. I would spread out and go further down from Zone 2 into Zone 3 and you can find some space; more than Zone 1. I would suggest throwing basic nymph patterns from 12-16, wooly buggars, soft hackles, egg patterns, etc. Nymphing seemed to be most productive for me. Members MidgeMan Posted March 5, 2012 Author Members Posted March 5, 2012 Just wanted to say thank you to all of you for your advice.. It was a lot of fun. Fishing could have been better but all in all it was a good time and as was mentioned it was more about the company then the fishing any way.
