BackCastingGolfer Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 What vise do you use? Let us all know what vise you use and how you like it! I personally tie on a cheap $15 special from Bass Pro, it's actually not a bad vise for the price. I am getting a Peak Rotary Pedestal with my tax return and can't wait!
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 A Regal for most of my tying. I can't complain, its 28 years old and still going strong. I like the fact that I can put an 18 in it and then a 4 without any adjustment and it will hold either tight enough that you can bend them. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dgames Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Renzetti Traveler. I like it. Had a simple griffin vise that I tied on for years and liked it as well as it was cheap, easy to use and firmly held hooks. However, a couple years ago I decided I wanted to upgrade to a rotary and bought the Renzetti. I do use the rotary feature quite a bit. Not necessary, but a nice luxury.
eric1978 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Traveler for me, too. Nice vise, totally unnecessary for the casual tyer like me.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I use the same Thompson Model A vise I have been tying on for about 10 years. Only replaced the standard jaws once... not bad for $45. (plus 10 for the replacement jaw) Just depends if you want stationary or rotary. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
timsfly Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I've tied on a pair of dyna-kings for 30 years, never had any trouble with them( professional series) Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
ness Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Renzetti Traveler, pedestal, older scew (not cam) jaws. It's a great tool -- well made and gonna outlast me. It'll spin, but I wouldn't call it a rotary vise. To me, rotary tying is kind of a specialty technique, and not really necessary for most folks to worry about. Honestly there are a lot of good ones out there. John
rfd515 Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Traveller, with the screw down jaws that I've had for a decade. If I was going to buy one now I'd get a peak for the longer stem and the lever clamp.
Jason R. Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Cant go wrong with a traveler- Ive got the pedestal with the clamp and I doubt I'll ever buy another one- it is basically just as functional as the upper model renzettis, although with less bling. I messed around with a Peak and thought it felt kinda cheap. My first vise was a Danvise and it was definitely good for how much I paid for it. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Brian Wise Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Peak. I have said it a thousand times....I feel like I could defend my family with my Peak, bullet-proof. They don't have as many bells and whistles as the Renzetti though. For what it's worth, I use the rotary feature about 10% of the time. It is nice to have at certain times but over-kill for me personally. My Youtube Channel
