Arofishing Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Something I will throw in on vise decisions - get a pedestal. Makes your vise much more mobil without having to worry about scarring furniture. I agree. This is mine, it's like a regal knock off from BPS: http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Crown-Spring-Tension-Vise/product/10220904/73530 LOL, in looking at the picture I just realized I've been using the base of it upside-down. Maybe less scarring now?

esox niger Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I think I have a Thompson model A, at least 20 years old if not more. It was given to me by the guy who worked down the hall from my mother when i was about 13, along with enough tools and feathers that I still have some of the saddle hackle capes today!. I might not have started tying if it weren't for him. So if your reading Mr. Merker...Thank you! Missouriflies.com Online Carp Fly Store
jdmidwest Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Of all the vises I have tried, all of them have stood up to the test of time. All of the American made vises have been made of hardened steel that can tye thousands of flies. After that, it is just a matter of style and design. As long as it clamps the variety of hooks you put into it, it should function for a lifetime of fly tying.
