mic Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 How do you not start the basketball season with a KU/MU game at the Sprint Center? Talk about money, full arena and guaranteed to be the prime time game on TV.
stlfisher Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Money was a huge factor in Missouri's move, but instabilty was a huge factor as well. MU ran the risk of ending up in a second tier conferance just like KU. If MU wanted stability and a long term future the SEC was their only choice and SEC had to have a 14th team. Missouri needed the SEC and the SEC needed Missouri. Any other year and any other time and Missouri may still be feeding of the scraps of Texas or maybe even worse. It was Texas and the LHN that caused all this. The other teams in the Big 12 have no options to move and Texas knows this. Therefore they keep the LHN and this gives them tremondous power over the conferance The LHN gives Texas a huge recruiting advantage too. In every other conferance the revenue is shared equally, but not in the big 12 and that is the problem. Why do you think no other conferance will take Texas unless they give up the LHN. It is simply a bad deal for anyone not named Texas. The choice for the remaining schools is to stay in the Big 12 with unequal revenue sharing with rules that highly favor Texas or play in MWC or the WAC or maybe the Big East. Texas is holding the schools hostage in essence. Missouri saw an opportunity to leave and they took it. I don't blame them at all. KU would have taken it too. Colordo, Nebraska, and A@M already have. I don't blame KU for being upset about the situation, but they are severly misguided in their blame and anger. Self needs to chill out and realize this didn't start at MU.
Justin Spencer Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Once the Pac 12 shut the door on Oklahoma and Texas, or whoever it was that was going to move, the stability of the Big 12 increased dramatically. Only time will tell if this was the right move for Mizzou, but I can't be excited as a sports fan about them going to a conference that as a Big 12 fan I have rooted against forever. Hopefully all this money will allow the state to not have to give the university as much money and we can put that money in to other areas (that's how it works right?) Maybe the move will make the university stronger as a whole, and if so I guess it's there for education anyway, but as a fan I have lost some passion for the black and gold.
