Members gwh Posted February 10, 2012 Members Posted February 10, 2012 Reported on Springfield TV today. http://www.ky3.com/news/story-enforcement-of-old-law-preventing-outfitters-going-into-bennett-spring-20120208,0,5894912.story Does anyone know why this is being enforced now?
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Probably because the greedy DNR and Jim Rogers found out they could. The reasoning that it's in the interest of the park visitors is lame at best. The park bought Vogels resort back in the 80's to get more access to the river for people. They then built a lot for their new canoe business and forbid the public from using it. So basically instead of protecting the river and the use of it the DNA jumped on the bandwagon and used the park and the publicist money to further the overuse. Don't get me started on the MO DNR. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Ha! That first clip is from July '10 and that's MY DOG! and my girlfriends nephew at Riverfront. How cool ! Riverdog made the future news ! Now, back to the point of the post ..... Are they talking about not letting them put in at the MDC 64access, nor take out at Barclay? Or are they just not allowing them to enter the State Park (Spring branch) area? Technically they never should have been inside the park boundaries in the first place unless NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES were onboard any of the canoes or shuttle busses. It's illegal to have a beer, or a flask of whiskey, or so much as a wine cooler at Bennett Spring.
dave potts Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 "It's illegal to have a beer, or a flask of whiskey, or so much as a wine cooler at Bennett Spring. " Is that still the rule in the park? I know it used to be, but so many people ignored it I think they either rescinded the rule or simply chose to not enforce it. They used to have signs all along the parking areas saying " no alcohol", but those signs have been taken down.
Outside Bend Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 If my budget had been slashed and I had to lay off a bunch of workers, I'd be looking to recoup those losses, too. But I suppose that's just me being greedy. <{{{><
Gavin Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I'm surprised that they were allowed to pick up and drop off w/o paying for the priveledge.

It's been a bit of a symbiotic relationship for the past, like, 20 years or more... Something to do with not forcing intoxicated customers to drive themselves to and from the put ins.. Why camp at the park of its just a big hassle from every end? cricket.c21.com
Gavin Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 It is a convience for both...but the outfitters on the Current & Jack's pay concession fees to conduct business in the ONSR. Outfitters on the Niangua should pay to for their use of Bennett.

Outfitters on the Niangua should pay to for their use of Bennett. Don't leave the NFoW out, we pay to put in on Forest Service property which is at Hammond on our river. They get to go through our entire operation, busses, etc. in addition just because we drop off people on govt. land. Then they can shut the access down without telling us like they did this winter, so while they complain about the drunks on the river, they shut down the access at a time when the only ones floating would be doing it for the love of nature. Don't get me started on the feds. I have no trouble paying to use the access, but the permitting process is a little overbearing. As for state accesses, I don't use them because they aren't convienient for me, but other outfitters do and I believe it is free of charge. These are not state parks, so I guess the law is different. State Parks and has recently been enforced. I know alot of guys will slam a beer with lunch over the tailgate, and will likely continue to, but I bet the penalty would be pretty stiff. A boater anchored in HaHaTonka cove was arrested for it, tried to fight it and lost..... So I sure wouldn't chance it at Bennett. I'm actually not too sure that MDC accesses don't have the same ruling.
