Outside Bend Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 No, the ramp in the park is for the park store's use exclusivly, and that includes the public. We bought it, but only they get to use it. The consessionires picking up people in the park is more a convenience for the public than for them. I'm no fan of the rental outfits, and even less of the park consessionaire, the park had no business getting into the canoe rental business to begin with. Why would a state agency go into competition with private business operating outside the park, and then use public money to buy a launch area and close it to public use? It ain't hard to smell it! It's a service provided for the benefit of park users- what's the problem with that? Should Bennett shut down its cabins, campgrounds, camp store, and restaurant because those services are provided by the private sector? Should drinking fountains be turned off in hopes you'll buy a bottled water? If a state agency has no business going into competition with the private sector, we need to quit stocking the spring branch, too- after all, there are pay-for-play trout ranches throughout the Ozarks which may be negatively impacted. Bennett's not requiring visitors to use their services, just providing them as an amenity. <{{{><
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I think you're stretching it there a little OB. No there aren't many doing business in the park, they have bought them all out with the exception of Larry's. The problem with the canoe business is different, the river doesn't run through the park. If you were to float the river section that borders the park your float would amount to 300 to 400 yards and they only have river, to midstream. There's a big difference between the park providing a service in the park and one outside, wouldn't you agree? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I was curious what floats the park offered and according to their website they only run shuttles on weekends, no alcohol allowed in canoes or rafts, and the only listed takeout is Ho Humm. Who ended up buying Ho Humm ? Last time I was there the new owner(s) were in the process of closing the deal on it.
Outside Bend Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I think you're stretching it there a little OB. No more than the idea Oneshot's ol' lady is gonna get hauled off for making a phone call in the parking lot If you were to float the river section that borders the park your float would amount to 300 to 400 yards and they only have river, to midstream. If the park concessionaire should be restricted to using Park property, why shouldn't NRO be restricted to using NRO property? You have to apply the rule equally. There's a big difference between the park providing a service in the park and one outside, wouldn't you agree? In most cases, yes- if Bennett opened a burger joint in Lebanon I'd be ticked. But while the Niangua isn't entirely within the park, it is a navigable river, open for public recreation. Everyone has a right to use the river, whether they own property on it or not, whether that person is you, me, NRO, or the Bennett concessionaire. Why should every other livery be able to utilize this public resource, except for the one located within the public recreation park? <{{{><
DoveTail Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 California passed a law making it illegal to throw a football or frisbee on the beach. Why wouldn't Missouri pass a law where people can't use the river? I guess I could understand the California law as Pelosi gets her brother-in-law $737 million for another solar scandal. You would think the central US would be a little more down to earth. I guess they need to ban fishing next? I kind of like everyone floating down the river and taking pressure out of the park and crowding on the spring to fish.
oneshot Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I did notice that ol'Bob was serious about making sure he collected his piddly parking fee from us last January at NRO. I've never been to hip on the way they TAKE CONTROL of the public access when they want to dump off a load of floaters. Riverfront doesn't pull that crap, neither does Adventure or Fort Niangua....only NRO. Burns, in all reality pretty much acts like he owns that darn river. Not too cool IMO. Its all a Big fight between the whole bunch down there.NRO got mad at Adventures for the color of front of their Canoes. So Adventures people are no longer allowed on NRO property.NRO has a Big Outfit and their Old School in the area just bunch of Good Ol Boys you don't mess with in their minds. Jim Rodgers wife didn't like what the people were wearing durring Hillbilly Days in the Muzzleloader Renascence so they quit having it,then they started going through peoples Ice Chest at the river, then they quit Hillbilly Days. They cut their own throat so now Jim Rodgers is pulling this because he is losing money.Jim Rogers has got the Bid for years,if someone thinks they can out bid him and make money should jump on it,its their right. Truth was just looking into buying out an Outfitter down there but the deal fell through and kind of glad it did. oneshot
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Jim Rodgers wife didn't like what the people were wearing durring Hillbilly Days in the Muzzleloader Renascence so they quit having it,then they started going through peoples Ice Chest at the river, then they quit Hillbilly Days. What I heard was that store business dropped off during HillBilly days because there were fewer fishermen and vendors competing with the store and restaurant. Given the fact that BSSP is all about the money it's no surprise. Did your place stay safe during the fire? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wayne SW/MO Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I knew you had a place up by Cross Timbers and were living there, but I didn't know you sold your place at Lead Mine. So where are your kids going to pull out? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
