Flatbottom Boy Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I wanted to share a home made e-caller that I just made for all you coyote and varmit hunters out there. No doubt some of you have already seen this but for those of you on a budget like me, this call paired with his calling sequences that are free to download works pretty well IMO. He also has some useful tips for varmit calling and hunting in general. Just scroll all the way down on the page to find the caller instructions. Hope this helps someone. http://www.varmintal.com/ahunt.htm

Flatbottom Boy Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks Daryk.. I think I fixed it. I did that on my cell phone not sure what happend.
jdmidwest Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Outdoor Life did an article for the Feb. issue. Download the sounds from the web, buy a small amplified speaker from Radio Shack and (optional) a bull horn speaker from online or Radio Shack also, cables to hook them up. I picked up the amp powered by a 9 volt battery and downloaded some mp3's to an old Blackberry I had and made a pretty nifty little game call for $14. Google "game sounds" or "varmit mp3" and you can find a ton of them. Varmits, waterfowl, deer, and turkey. Just don't try to use the deer and turkey or the waterfowl during the respective seasons as a call as electronic calls are prohibited. Will work for varmit hunting and snow goose during the conservation order part. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Very neat. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Flatbottom Boy Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 JD that sounds like close to the same one I made from that website. I ordered everything as he says on the webpage, minus the mp3 player. Right now I have no more than 25 bucks in the whole thing. I never thought about the conservation snow goose idea thanks for the heads up on that..now I just need a place to go put it in use for that. Are farmers pretty good about granting permission to hunt the snows, or are you guys hunting public ground?
jdmidwest Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 It depends on the snows, some farmers hate them and will allow you to go after them because of the destruction they cause. Some farmers lease out the ground to hunters so they will be off limits. I have never really targeted snows, it seems like they leave out here around the end of Jan when the conservation order starts. The article on Outdoor Life suggested using a cell phone, most have the capability to play mp3. The old Blackberry I used has a problem with the antenna for the phone connection. But it works for the rest of what I needed it for. The rest was available at the local Radio Shack.
