Bas Pro Catalog Outlet Store

I stop by there alot. I have gotten great bargains when I'm in the right place at the right time. I bought a White river Chest pack for $10.00 once. There were about 15 of them on the shelf. I designated that one for a gift to a beginner friend of mine and went back the next morning. They were all gone. I was looking around one evening after work and a guy next to me asked if they had any Temple Fork Rods available. I stated that I fished TFO and I really liked them and I asked what did he think of them. He stated he didn't know, but he had really good success selling them on E-Bay. By then, I realized that sportsmen looking for discounts were competing with E-Bay sellers using the outlet as their wholesalers. I guess fair game is fair game and you gotta be quick to the draw.

They've cut back on their spinning rods. What a bummer. Not sure what they're doing with their returns now. I've bought alot of stuff there- much more than the regular store.

Their marketing managers are on the ball. At times I've found items on sale at the main store that are same as or cheaper than the outlet.

You have to look carefully, not only to find everything, but to make sure of what you're buying. The rods are often repaired, but individual items are order returns, or so I've been told. I bought a Sammy there for $7, current color, still sealed in the package and I assumed it was a return that was thrown on the shelf.

Terry, leave your plastic at home, take it from someone who knows.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Found Don's post to be quite interesting, re:EBay Sellers. Not long ago, you could go to the outlet store and find lots of very nice fly rods, to include St Croix, at prices almost 50% off retai. But they aren't there anymore!! My last recent visit, there was not one fly rod for sale. Also could find a good selection of felt soled wading boots, to include Orvis. And last year I got two pair of Orvis boots for about $25.00 each. They aren't there anymore, either. In fact, hardly any boots available. Come to think of it, there isn't much of anything fly fishing related now in the outlet store. Maybe Bass Pro is marketing them to EBay sellers, as Don suggested. Only makes sense.

I would think it would more likely be someone grabbing up what they felt was marketable.

Its my understanding that when something is returned, BPS doesn't feel its feasible to check it out completely, so they give it the once over and price it for sale at the Outlet store. Of course they also get rid of overstocks and discontinued items.

I have thought of the Ebay thing when I saw 50 rods marked down half price on clearance, but I don't have the time for all the hassle of babysitting bidders and shipping, etc. So someone has more time and even less money than me.

Things are seasonal, sometimes large lots show up, and other times there is nothing of a certain type of tackle (flyfishing, waders, etc.)

I like the fact that the rod and reel repair is right there, and I get to check out what reels are being returned in large numbers. If you see a bunch of a certain reel returned for repairs, stay clear.

I do like the place, I have found some great deals, I bought some nice Lucky Craft, Team Daiwa, and other high end baits for pennys.
