Are there many smallmouth caught in this stretch? Also could you use a jon boat with prop motor? If the answer to my previous question is no, how far up the river could someone go from HaHaTonka? I love river fishing and have not been in this section though I have floated the typical canoe rental spots up by Bennett and had success for smallies. Thanks for any info you might have.

Not alot of smallies but they are present.

You can run a prop quite a ways up if you're careful. If you slither through the shallow spots with the trolling motor, push pole, or hop out and pull the boat through you can get all the way to the whistle if you wanted to....but I've never done it.

Sure seems to be alot of guys curious about this area all of a sudden :)

The locals hit it pretty hard and apparently eat alot of fish. It's a neat area but not the hidden goldmine I was expecting when I first started exploring it.

Thanks for the reply. I am mainly thinking about places to go in the summer when LOZ is too rough to get a bass boat on. Sounds like it might not be that great after all.

I'm sure it can be outstanding if your timing is right, probably has cycles like everywhere else. Turkey and Deer creek have my attention lately, I know there are some nice smallies in Turkey cr. Just gotta figure out the best (easiest) way to access it.
