A couple posts from a Branson tourism forum:

Does anyone else fish for walleye in Taneycomo? It seems to be a natural home to them with the water temps, flows and deep holes, rocks and bridges.

ELSE is the key word in my post. hah. if you want some tips pm me. i just think the trout fishing is so prevalent that no one targets the bass and other fish in the lake. Its a whole new method tho as it is really fished like a river and not a lake. huge difference.

In branson for three days. filled on walleye each day. biggest was 7 lbs

My first impression, wrong according to the poster, was that he was a guide drumming up business. He got a bit upset with my accusations, and told me if he was a guid he wouldn't have my business. A bit defensive I'd say!

My question to those here that I know are a reliable source for Taneycomo information. Do you think there is a large enough sustained population of Walleye in Taneycomo to spend time targeting them, or is this guy blowing smoke?

If you knew their habits here on Taneycomo, I'm sure you could hone in on them and be successful. He's right about the amount of anglers fishing for trout only and not targeting other fish. Yes some do but not as many as other area lakes.

I don't know of any guides targeting walleye but that doesn't mean much...

I doubt if he's blowing smoke.

Walleye were caught on a regular basis back in the fall and winter months of the 70's. I am talking caught by fishermen on the upper water. Nothing for a few years and then about 95 an upswing in the catching once again, and especially after every flood gate event. Micheal Kyle's dad, Gary, {Stubby} caught an 11lb 4oz fish one night back in the late 90's. It is the largest I have witnessed and the largest that I know of.

The Upper White River behind Beaver dam is seldom talked about or even thought of as a Walleye Producer except for a few locals. I wouldnt put it past Taney to be another "sleeper" I have caught two walleye on it but dont target them. Its highly possible there is a potential for a targeted species on it. But its overshadowed IMO byt the trout fishing.

The walleye this guy is talking about are being caught down lake I'm sure.

I'm with Phil, probably fishing BS if he was filling out. Taney is full of other species, but like the trout and yellow perch in BS, it might be a long haul targeting some of them.

The key is the upper end, if there are a a lot of walleye there should be quite a few caught in the early spring in the upper reach.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Then there is his latest claim.

i had fun fishing that for 9 months but it wasnt that challenging. Had two fish over ten and 47 over 7 that i journalled plus 214 over 16 and 576 over 12. Did not keep track of smaller fish.

A little hard to understand what the measurements are, but I assume the two, and 47 were pounds, and the 214, and 576 were inches. 47 trout over 7 pounds in 9 months! WOW, maybe he should be a guide.

Hi Gatorjet. I thought originally we were talking about walleye. But if it is trout, then I do not doubt it. This fall, at taney, between the end of july and into november, I had 52 trout between 3.5 and 12.5 lbs. And most were caught on the weekend amongst the crowds.

It was walleye originally. Then he posted about how he lost interest in trout fishing in Taneycomo because it was so easy. He said it wasn't like his wild mountain streams in his Colorado home. He didn't state when he caught all those fish, just that after 9 months he wasn't impressed with it.

I would hate to get that bored that catching a lunker was no fun. I have been catching them for 37 yrs and each one is more exciting than the previous.
