DaddyO Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 My brother asked me to shoot a video of me tying his favorite fly. I have a Sony Handycam 201 that shoots straight to DVD. I shot the video and finalized the disc. I put the DVD in my computer and opened up Explorer to look at the DVD. The file format was a .VOB and it was about 450 MB. The video was about 15 minutes long. I was able to convert the file to a .MOV file format and that dropped it down to about 350 MB. Next I loaded it into a Video editing program and removed some content to get it to about 13 minutes. I've finally gotten it to about 150 MB in a .QT format. However, I don't know what to do, now, to get it any smaller. I can't imagine trying to load a file of that size to Youtube. Do any of you video experts have any advice? Thanks. DaddyO Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 I could do that, but it would still be a little over 70 MB per file. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Cocry Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Mpeg-4 is the best quality to upload to youtube. Google will tell you any answer that you need to know. I just typed "best format to upload to youtube" .
DaddyO Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 My concerns are the SIZE of the file not the format, but, thanks anyway. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Flysmallie Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 MP4 will probably be one of the smallest sizes as well.
Brian Wise Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 150mb is crazy small for a video that is under 10 minutes anyway. Are you wanting a smaller file size for an easier Youtube upload or for another reason? My file sizes are anywhere from 500mb to 1gig in HD and where I live we don't have really, really fast internet so my upload time is usually around 7-8 hours. What program are you editing with? DaddyO Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Thanks Brian! That's the answer I was looking for. The video is 13 minutes in length and the .qt (QuickTime) format is 150MB in size. I am using the AVS4YOU Software suite and I really like it. There are 18 tools for editing Video, Audio, Images and file conversion. And, Yes, I was wanting as small a file size as possible to upload to YouTube. I have BroadBand access at home so the upload time won't take too long, but I was concerned about viewing performance. Brian Wise Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Great, if the video is 13 minutes and you don't have any music, "fixing", or effects then I don't see you getting any smaller in size without totally losing all of your quality. I have DSL with a middle-of-the-road speed and my tying vides still take a while to upload. I usually upload right before I go to bed and it is typically done by the time I get up. My Youtube Channel
