White bass season is kinda like opening day of trout season...crowded. That's just the way it is. Sure you can go out and fish all up and down the river looking for fish, but chances are the fish are where the people are. It's pretty tough to get away from the crowd in Missouri. I fish alot at night and during lightning storms to help with that. Something about that lightning flashing and thunder crackin sends people home. About the only place I can get the whole river or fishing hole to myself anymore is in remote Western Alaska. No white bass up there though....and alot of bears to deal with.

tho1mas,

It is Blunks Rd. right out side of Galena off 248. It is a concrete ramp and can get real crowded down there during the peak of the run.

Thanks for the replys. I would be fishing from the kayak if I go. Trout fishing for me is winding down now so I am gearing up for bass fishing now! I went last week and caught a couple of smallies so I am pumped up now.

Oh yea a kayak would be perfect, This early on if i were fishing at blunks i would hit the chunk rocks right around that high line,

But later on in the run the place to be is going to be the shoal just up from blunks.

Duane, I heard the smell of chicken wings cooking always drives the crowd away, especially late afternoon/early evening when the fishing gets good.

I think we still have a bunch to come up the river yet. 4 days ago, we were catching huge sows down around point 14 and the whole lake was exploding with them. Those fish should be getting up around Blunks in the next week or so.

My brother and I caught 30 biguns Mon. in about 4 hrs. Nothing happening @ Taylor so we ran a ways up..... it appears they have all ran up. Probably could be caught in Galena. Still too high for flyrods so 1/16 oz plastics ruled the day. Found a school of Crappie in an eddy mixed with whites caught about 20 shorts and 5 really nice keeps. Farthest i have ever found Crappie upstream. White bite was VERY light, I use braid with a flouro leader on x-fast St Croix and still could barely feel them. Colors::: Shad around noon switching to pearl as the sun faded. An absolutely gorgeous day. As the river falls I would expect Blunks to be the ticket.

Was there to night from 4 to 9pm and no go. Had alot of bites but it seems to me that there not really wanting to bite. I could not get one hooked for nothing.
