drew03cmc Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I ain't a builder...Power/action, oh well...thanks Eric. I am not too concerned. I always associated power ratings with action anyway. In my mind a L casting rod is limber, flexible, easy to cast while a MH casting rod is a telephone pole that doesn't flex for anything. That is how I always associated them with action. Wayne, you would be surprised. I, however, am not spending $200+ on a fishing rod. It doesn't make sense to me. For twice that, I can have a kayak, so I don't see the advantage to it. I do, however, prefer my baitcasters for bass fishing as they give better versatility to fish the various lures that I will use on a given day. Andy

One doesn't have anything to do with the other. Action is dictated by the rod's taper, not by its thickness. You can have a very slow telephone pole or a very fast spaghetti noodle, and everything in between. Here's an illustration of action:
drew03cmc Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I understand that. I didn't know this was a dissertation on rod action vs power. I was just telling you why I associated the two together when I was 12, and never changed my terminology. It worked for me. Andy

And I was just explaining why you're totally wrong even though you talk like an old pro. Don't preach incorrect BS to people if you don't wanna be corrected.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Wayne, you would be surprised. It's all about limitations and that is why there are so many choices. I don't have a baitcasting outfit that cost me less than $200, but that's what my 60 years of experience with them tells me I need for my fishing. The biggest problem with going cheap is the same problem with buying a used truck, the cheaper you go the more bad ones you'll find. If I remember right you got your expensive baitcaster for free so you're hardly an expert on the price of baitcasting reels. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

The biggest problem with going cheap is the same problem with buying a used truck, the cheaper you go the more bad ones you'll find. If I remember right you got your expensive baitcaster for free so you're hardly an expert on the price of baitcasting reels. One of them, I did get as a gift. I like it a lot to be honest, and to replace it with the same reel would put me at that price range, so I don't dislike great gear, but I have a hard time with the price difference between good, usable reels and the latest technological marvel with its 12 magnets and superlight magnofluxed action specific spool diameters with porting for lighter weight. I just can't justify the cost. That is me. Eric, I haven't said I was right. You keep going about it like you are proving something and I said that is how I, note that noun there, I, associate them and as such that is the terminology I used. Was it incorrect, sure, am I going to immediately change it? Nope, not too likely. It may happen, but I doubt it. We can debate the benefits of correct terminology or expensive tackle all day, and neither will likely change my mind. I am happy with my tackle and how I use it, that is what is important, right? I am set in my ways as far as conveying rod action/power, and will take into consideration the Loomis way of speaking regarding the power vs action. I don't mind. Andy
eric1978 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 It's not the "Loomis" way, it's the correct way. When you say action instead of power you are making a totally different comment than what you intended, and you'll either misinform people or they just won't know what the hell you're talking about. Keep doing it your way, whaddo I care? But it helps to at least sound like you know what you're talking about when you bullshit people.
drew03cmc Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Hey, you want to talk about bs'ing people, be my guest. I don't care. Hope you all have fun. Andy
Mitch f Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 The longer I fish the more I really get excited about finding deals with fishing equipment. Found a daiwa rod at Dick's on sale for $19.99, made my day. I will not spend over $100 anymore for a rod, actually I rarely spend more than $79.99 for a rod. Graphite was the greatest leap forward in fishing rods! They are all cheaper now! "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I guess when you have graduated from Bronson's, Langley's and JC Higgin's baitcasters to Curado's and Z's like I have you get a different perspective. While I'm not really in to spending a lot on spinning rods, baitcasters are a different animal to me and I love my Falcons. I'm sure there are others I could appreciate also that are in their class.. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
