Nortrad Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Look at the spot pattern in mid-belly area, different fish. Still have a few to land to catch up to you...:;
3wt Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 So you took the trail from baptist, but I though it crossed well before the horseshoe bend. I thought it crossed at the 90degree right hand turn (I've seen horses crossing there before) just up from some of the bluffs. Is that the horseshoe bend? I thought the horsehoe bend was down from Ashley some distance. Only asking because I never catch fish like that brown and would like to steal every secret you have... I also don't keep up with "names" of holes or spots along the river.
Gavin Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Think Nortrad is calling the S bend the Horseshoe bend judging by where that kingfisher was hanging. But it really doesnt matter. Anyplace with some depth & cover can produce a good fish like that. Best bet is to pattern the fish as fast as you can.Where are you seeing/catching fish, how deep is it, how fast is the current moving, then replicate that pattern up or downstream. Here's the map I did for Phil awhile back. The mileage is accurate...unlike the published float guide (says its 3.3 miles from Baptist to Ashley and that isnt so). Cheers. http://www.ozarkanglers.com/current-river/files/2012/01/Current-River-Map-Two.pdf
Sharps4590 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Beautiful fish Nor. Good on you!!! I'd rather live my entire life, living as if there is a God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there isn't, than to live my entire life as if there is no God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there is.

OKFlyFisher44 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Dude....thats a stud! I'm totally jealous...cant freaking wait to get back down there! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
Nortrad Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks man. This game takes a alot of casts and varying the retrieves, but Gavin's correct, use the tactic to match the next spot on the water. I'm not a streamer guru by any means. Siusaluki's landed quite a few of these, he is the streamer guy on the Current, IMO. It's not a guarantee. Two of my best fish, including this one, have come from throwing streamers. Spent a frustrating morning nearly hooking/loosing quite a few fish when I first started trying it. The other nice fish have all come on regular nymphing.
