3-10-2012 Fishing Report.

It was nice sleeping in after being away from home for a few days, but I was missing my striper time as well. So at 9:00 I made it out to the Prairie Creek launch ramp and headed for the back of Avoca as rumor had it the shad were thick in there.

Rumors were not wrong the shad balls are 100yards long and 50 yards wide, prime size bait 3 to 4 inch threadfins. After making a cast with my net and illing up the bait tank I shot over to the Old Road in Prairie creek and started catching stripers for then next few hours.

The trick was to fly line them directly behind the boat about 50 feet any weight at all and you were not going to get bit. They were also tight to the bank no more then 30 ft off it in skinny 14 to 6 feet. Which also provoked me into throwing the fly rod on them. This was a mistake with two rods out the back of the boat with live bait. A chinese fire drill occured several times until i put away the fly rod. I figured a triple hook up though fun was not so much fun with multiple fish going diffrent directions.

The fish slacked off about 12:30 which was perfect as I had my brother coming out to meet me so I was able to take a short nap then run over to the docks to pick him up at 3:00pm.

After picking him up we shot back to Avoca for more bait and never left it. Stripers were very thinck back in there but not biting wide open for some reason. We talked to one guy who had been catching them the last four nights straight in there. We did manage to get a few fish and a couple kicker big black bass and a nice walleye.

The totals for the day were 8 Walley, 7 shorts 1 at 24 inches, 9 black bass from 1lb to 7lb and 30 stripers from 10 to 25lbs. The weather was fantastic I could not have asked for nicer and the water was warming up nice.

I beleive this was one of the 5lb class bass

LOL, you just want to add my striper nuggets to the menu, im still laughing about that. I stil lsay we need to sit down at the restraunt one night and make some stiper rolls.

Sounds like a plan, maybe we should rename the restaurant to Scott and Wilson's Striper Paradise.

FF, do you actually hold yourself out to be a guide on Beaver or do you just fish it a bunch? My girlfriend would get a kick out of a striper trip I think (and I would too). Only intentional striper fishing I've ever done has been for topwater schoolers on lake Maumelle in my younger days, and a guided trip on Texoma where we stroked them slow rolling big spinnerbaits.

When you talk about the restaurant, are you talking about Across the Creek by chance?

Hog, I do not guide, I just live close to the lake and love to fish, I handed off bait to several people yesterday I didnt even know so they could catch them. I post these reports in the hopes others will learn how to catch them and where they are in almost "reel" time. To me its all about having fun and if i can help other have fun then even better.

As to the restraunt WC " Wilson" owns a Restraunt in downtown Rogers area and we make jokes with eachother about adding striper and other stuff to the menu. Just friends teasing with eachother. Though striper nuggets are dam good. and even good cold.

You killed me yesterday when you sent me the picture. My buddy and I were chasing crappie and I showed the pic to him. The crappie just werent as exciting after that. Well, for having family in town, and not even supposed to be fishing, I guess I cant complain.

Duane, The white fly I showed you was working great one of that double header i sent you was with the fly. I had to do it the devil made me lol.

I figured the stripers were running around here. Saw a bunch of striper boats in the back of the PC cove when I drove out to go hunting with Quillback. Even saw a "fish on" moment from one boat when we were coming home.
