Well I tied up six different flies. I did try a brassie body with hot yellow wire with a spider bully head with black legs and Pheasant Tail Ice Dub. I don't know if it will catch anything, but it looks cool. Have a Birthday party to throw, but I hope to try them out this weekend.

My all-time favorite is a black gnat wet fly, slightly modified. Tail- red or chartreuse (for redear) hackle fibers, Body- peacock herl. Collar- black saddle hackle, tied back. On a #8-#12 hook.

Works for feeding bluegill (cast weightless into a rise-ring), skittish gills (light cast, slow sink, short strip), or for bedded gills (small split shot, quick strips through the bed). Can fill the cooler just as quick as a tube of crickets.

I've also heard of big Lacquer-bodied ants with a red, yellow, or chartreuse stripe on the abdomen working well- apparently they sink well, and just have that look to them.

Ron,

Did you catch those fish this year? They look like spawning males. If those kind of fish are available now I need to go back to Bluegill school. I figure we're two moons away from fish like that.

Normally, you would be about right. But it's been so warm so long so early this spring that the bream are about a month to six weeks ahead. I've been catching them in my pond for a month and in the lakes and streams for two weeks (excepting during flood stage, which doesn't count). Caught a lot in pre-spawn territory the past couple days. Don't let them get away!!
