dave potts Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Anybody have any experience with Exide Marine Batteries? Menards currently have them on sale for $45 and they carry a one year guarantee. Suppose to me made in Kansas. Dave
fishinwrench Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Been using and/or dealing Exide's for 16+ years ...... Wait, WHAT? OMG where did the time go ? I'm getting old They are a fine battery. Actually all the brands are good if taken care of properly. I see more Everstarts go bad before their time than any other brand....but I think that is more because of the way they are treated, and the fact that everyone around here is cheap and shops at Wal-Mart. Actually I believe Everstarts were at one time made by Exide, and may still be.
Dutch Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I ran a pair of them until I switched to AGMs. They are as good as any other wet cell. That sounds awfully cheap. How many reserve amps do they have?

How many reserve amps do they have? Ad doesn't say, but the picture appears to say 650 amps-it's hard to read). The price is $54.99 but you get a mail in $10 rebate good only on use at Menards-but they sell everything under the sun, so no problem there. I bet Wrench is right and they make the Wally world batteries also.
Dutch Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 It isn't amps that you want. It is reserve amps (ra) or reserve capacity (rc). They need to be 160-200 if you are going to be able to run a trolling motor very long.
dave potts Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 I picked up the marine starting battery which has 650 cca. They also have the marine trolling motor on sale for around $10 more as I recall. I wasn't interested in it so didn't get the specs on it. It was much larger and heavier. Dave
Dutch Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 650 CCA may be all you need depending on you motor size and type.
