Members Wormser Posted March 26, 2012 Members Posted March 26, 2012 I used to thisk the upper Jacks and Current were clear and then I started going to the upper forks on the Black, and just my 2 cents, but it is by far the clearest I have seen (maybe a coincidence of perfect weather each time?).
Guest Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 They are all pretty clear...but the upper black and it's tribs are like glass. LOTS of chert gravel in those watersheds.
Midwest troutbum Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Undoubtedly, the Black river is extremely clear. The surrounding topography and geology is nearly all rock, keeping sediment to a minimum and acting as nature's filter. The river is located near Taum Sauk Mountain, the highest point in elevation in Missouri. Many other streams in the state run through small stretches of bottomland, woodlands or farmland which deposit trace amounts of soil.
