Kicknbass
Just curious to see if we have anyone on the forum that had luck w/ Teal or doves the last few weeks? I got out for a couple of hours Tuesday morning teal hunting. It was slow. Not many birds flying. I managed to scratch 2 birds. It was a great to watch the sunrise over the marsh again to start another hunting season. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 21, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted September 21, 2006 SE Kansas... I got to hunt Monday and Tuesday and killed limits both days. West and south a few miles from Altamont on a friends place- Roger and Jerry Carnahan. We hunted over 2 fields- both were milo fields that had been cut and baled before opening. We started at 4:30 Monday. The birds were already swarming the field. We had 15 each by 6. Tuesday we were on the field by 6:30 am and they were coming in low and fast. I couldn't see them so waited on the easier ones to start coming in- alittle higher. We were done by 8 am. Dad got his shoulder fixed (got a shot) during the day and it felt good enough to shoot so I talked him into going out. We hunted a field next to the one we hunted earlier in the day but they didn't start flying till 5:30. But when they did there were hundreds coming in at a time. He didn't know which ones to shoot- it was funnt to watch. We stayed till 6:30 and called it quits. I think he bagged 12. These birds were the smallest dove I've seen. I know they are smaller at the beginning of the migration- the larger ones fly through later in September and October. We heard some teal fly past the farm house Tuesday morning before daylight on the way to their pond. Two bunches. No other reports on teal. snagged in outlet 3
Sounds like a great time Phil. I'll have to go up and check our fields for some new arrivals. Snag.
