Anyone catch "River Monsters" last night? One of the segments was on Lake of the Ozarks, Jeremy Wade (the host) had heard stories of drowning victims that were never found and jumped to the conclusion that they may have been eaten by giant catfish. They interviewed a salvage diver that claims he has seen 200-300 lb. flatheads in that lake. I have a hard time believing their are flatheads that big in any of the lakes around here. They did some fishing with a guide and Jeremy did catch a 50 lb. blue, but that's a long ways from 300 lbs.

there are always 'stories' from unverifiable sources that claim 'catfish big enough to eat a person'. I'm not saying their aren't 'large' catfish in lakes, but it's extremely unlikely that they are large enough to consume a human. Look at the 130lb blue cat that was caught in the Missouri river last summer. no way that thing could have eaten even a small child. (a newborn, maybe) let alone a full grown adult. the 'catfish' that eat people tend to end up being a mixture of alcohol and poor judgement.

I kept thinking bigger cats might have been below the dam vs. up in the lake. Or maybe below Truman. Entertaining though, especially the local interviews.

The old "divers" story on LOZ goaes back to at least the 50's, and probably beyond. A fish that big has to eat and can't expend a lot of energy to do it. I think a big fishes chances are much better in a river where they can approach from behind so if the big rivers don't produce fish that size I'm thinking LOZ won't.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wade has been to LOZ before...looking for piranha or something similar. Maybe if we write in we can get him to come to Taneycomo and look for the squid.

Think Wayne is on it. Who knows what is swimming in a big warm river like the MO, Miss, or Ark.

I will seriously write in....that would be the funniest episode ever...we gotta do it

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.

Hard to imagine anything better than King's English, Branson, and wading with a headlamp below Table Rock dam in search of a gigantic freshwater squid.

He would probably end up catching a world record brown trout a week before I go down with my luck

River Monsters guy gets paid to make the show entertaining. Along with all his writers, producers, editors..........

If flathead or blue could top 200. An ozark angler would have got him one by now. I saw the show last night. ......I am still shaking at the thought of those "killer monsters" lurking in our Missouri depths. :secret-laugh:
