Why all the hate for the A rig? I haven't used one yet but thats just because I can't bring myself to spend the crazy money that they are asking for them and haven't taken the time to make one. Is it worse than side view electronics? I'd have that too if it wasn't $1000. Just curious.

I have messed around with it some, but really don't enjoy fishing it. I think the main issue in tournaments is that now someone who has not put in the practice and time refining things for a tournament, can go out and catch 20+ lbs if they just stumble upon a school. Is it a phenomal bait, obviously. Is it a cure all for everything, no. I don't fish many big tournaments anymore, mostly 20 boats or less type events. But even in these derbies, if I consisently get beat by young uns throwing the rig, I will probably just quit fishing them. 25 years ago I would have had them fine tuned by now and catching some good fish on it. But now days I don't want to do that. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in a year or two.

You said it right there.... It's not a cure all bait, I fished it for black bass and could not get a fish to sniff it much less eat it. If you do not understand bass, and I mean UNDERSTAND them then you cant catch them. That being said I don't know if I'm the only one but I have caught 70 3 to 4 lb whites in 4 days spread out over a week and a half. All on the a rig.

I think the A-rig thunder will die down eventually. While it seems to be killer Kentucky lure for the winter bite, I suspect the cons will catch up with it when its use is expanded. It should be noted that Alabama has a big population of spots/kentuckies.

I love the A rig. If you get one, get the $16 dollar one. No need for the $25 one from walmart. We've been killing the white bass with these things while everyone else watches and wonders why they aren't catching anything. Is it a guarantee? no, but it greatly increases your chances. At first I hated it, thought it was a waste of money, but now its my fav and it's proven itself. If you dont like em...cool....have fun watching us pull em out of the water. :) There is especially one technique that seems to be the secret lately, but I'll leave that for you to figure out. Of course, when the whites are like piranhas it doesn't really matter what you throw, but when they just aren't biting give the A-rig a throw and see if it doesn't change your mind.

I've chased the whites hard this spring and they are spotty, but I haven't seen the A-rig outfish being in the "right spot".
