I actually like the first half of the show when he is going into different areas, talking to locals, hearing the fish stories etc. That is part of what makes it interesting to me. It reminds of me of growing up, there was guy that traveled the world then came to our school and did a couple hour slide show and talked about the places he had been, it was cool

Yup.

Interesting. I thought I would share this. I sent an email to Jeremy Wade through the link on his website (I posted this earlier but somehow deleted it). I asked him about the episode with a fly rod and also told him about chasing gar and carp with fly gear and how they are seen by many as trash fish in the US. He actually sent me a reply, which I thought was cool. The wording actually sounds like him, so hopefully this is real. Here is the reply....also I thought this was interesting since on tonight's episode he is fly fishing.

Many thanks for your mail and kind comments about the show. Fly fishing is actually something I'm getting more into. Watch out for one episode in particular of this season, and next week I go off on a film trip where this will play a very big part. Last year my casting wasn't as good as it could have been, but lately I've been out practicing my double haul with a 12 weight, and I'm looking forward to doing that on the water.

And I have to say I'm very much in tune with (and respectful of) your attitude to fishing. There seems to be some amazing fishing in the US, but because it's not fashionable then it's largely neglected. A shame in a way, but at least it means that those like yourself who take the trouble to look for it, and who appreciate it, get to enjoy it without seeing too many other people.

With all best wishes

Jeremy

How many remember the photos of the giant cats at the dam on Stockton? Remember a write up along with photos in the Conservation many years ago ( like 30). The write up made a believer out of me and as well scarred me. So I have no doubt they are there.

Many years ago I knew a gentleman who had retired from the Missouri State Water Patrol as a dive team capt/member or something. He made many many dives for body recovery, stolen goods recovery and the like. He used to laugh at the catfish big enough to eat a person stories.

I am a huge fan of this show. I really enjoyed that recent episode where he was in the USA.

Strangercreek that is so cool that he took the time to email you back.

I also agree that there is good fishing in carp and gar. They are fun to catch. Even if you don't want to eat them they put up good fights and take nice pictures. I just fish for anything really. My tackle box is a hybrid and I carry about 4 different poles with me in my vehicle so if no luck on Bass, I will switch to catfish, bluegill, carp, crappie, etc. Expand your horizons I always say. :)
