zarraspook Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 J-Doc... A striper tournament.........man that could be fun. The weigh-ins would be thrilling! I joined the national striped bass association about 6 years ago... apparently they folded and are now the "Striped Bass Conservation Coalition".. The only place they were getting enough boats to pay for a tournament was on the east coast.. Plus the expence on adding "Striper Tubes" to a boat was about $ 1500-2000 .... You HAD to have them for "catch and release"........ . "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Feathers and Fins Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Striper Tourneys should be C&B {catch and bbq) I fished a few back in cali that were that way back in the 80's and 90's I think the biggest tourney had 100boats. They were fun. Going off memory they started at 6am and weigh in was 3pm all fish were then cleaned and thrown on the BBQ. After all had eaten and had some fun at 5pm the winning weights were announced starting from last to first. I thought it was a neat way to have a tourney. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Wish they were doing that when I was catching them in the Sacramento river, in the 60's....... "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Stump bumper Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I agree with Table Rock and Bull Shoals being way ahead of Beaver but I diffidently prefer Bull Shoals due to lake of pressure and population. But as far as Northern lakes not making it, Lake Champlain is hard to beat, I have a lot bigger bags there and a lot more fish a day then I ever had on Beaver. You can fish a heavy weekend there and not see another bass boat. It might take 10 years to grow a 5lb bass but I have had very few days I could not put together a 5 fish bag of 5-6lbers on that lake and can count on one hand how many times I did that out of 10 years fishing Beaver. The crappie were unreal up there too, we used to catch 55gal cans full of them to sell without a commercial fishing license through the ice. You might get bigger fish in the South but due to lower pressure but as far as "good fish all day" I would put any lake in Vermont or New York over Beaver, heck I have had bigger bass and Stripers out of the Hudson River than Beaver. Lilly pads so thick it takes 2oz weights to punch through and grass so thick it chokes you prop are just a few things I miss. Now why don't I live there anymore, too darn cold and 4 months of water being liquid sucks, but as far as fishing June-August if I had the money I would become a snow bird...lol
Mr. Ed Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Now PWT I wouldnt mind seeing. It would be interesting to see those guys try to fish the EYE'S on Beaver. Be carfull what you wish for. When PWT discoverd how good a fishery Millford lake in KS was they decided to come a second year... for the final I believe. That lake has got so much pressure since it's never been the same.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Let them have at it. Beaver as most will attest to is a stingy lady. Beside with Greers and Bull i seriously doubt they will come to Beaver. Although I wonder how many of them would try to fish the tailwaters if it was allowed in the tourney? Im thinking that would be the best bet its got shallows and sand bars vs Beavers deep water. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Feathers and Fins Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 So I’ve been thinking on this thread all day about a Striper Derby. One of my favorite tourneys was in Boca Grande for Tarpon, if you have never don’t it or seen it you have to at least one time in your life. 30 40 50 100 BOATS IN A SMALL AREA and all courteous and working together so each team or boater had a chance to land the fish. I think it would be great to get OAF members on Beaver over a school of stripers just having a blast together. At the end of the day all go to a Park and have a BBQ with Family and friends around. Say a No money Derby for nothing more than bragging right but more just for fun to all meet up. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
jeb Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I'll meet you at the end of the day for BBQ, but I don't have much interest in catching whites, stripers or hybrids. No insult intended. I've caught some by accident and they're fun and all. Just not my passion. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
