dtrs5kprs Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Grub bite is still going. Gravel or mixed rock points and similar banks in some coves. Also got the tube going again today. Same kinds of places. For whatever reason these fish are deep and slow. About 10' out to 30'. Wood is also key but not necessarily visible wood or pole timber. Fish are sort of all over these places except where there is wood. That is bunching them up. Ned Rig (super finesse) also still working in coves about 8' to 12'. More K's seem to be coming up. Several today loaded with eggs. 5 keepers and good number of shorts but had to work for them all. No bigs but nice solid keepers. You can't fish this stuff too slowly. Bill wrote about crawling the grub. I am letting it go to bottom in 10' then pulling it along bottom with the rod only using reel to pick up slack. Same on tube and Ned Rig. Pull it along all the way back to the boat. Big thanks also to Bry from the Bull Shoals forum for posting about the stupid tube rig. Have only lost 1 tube rigged this way and that was to a toothy critter. Comes through everything.
powerdive Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Speaking of which, are any of you guys finding any walleyes out in the main lake, well away from the spawning streams, yet? Thanks.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Speaking of which, are any of you guys finding any walleyes out in the main lake, well away from the spawning streams, yet? Thanks. Had 4 clean bite offs yesterday. 1 tube rest on 5" smoke grub. Gravel points either way of 13 HWY. Had two or three others over the trip all around Kim City.
Members Grappling Coach Posted April 27, 2012 Members Posted April 27, 2012 Where is the information about rigging the tube located?
dtrs5kprs Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 it sure saves you $ !! here's some pics of it coach, http://s692.photobuc...d%20Tube%20Rig/ http://blog.wired2fi...Rig-Illustrated I usually just rig it by cutting a slit in the head of the tube w/ scissors then just stuff the head of the jig into it and position the hook as shown. dtrs5kprs, I scrub and swim 5" grubs on smaller shaky heads too for less snags. I thought about that last night. Would save time vs knot work in wind. Chickened out in the end and tied my regular homemade head with single wire guard back on. Kept my promise about wind from earlier in the week and washed and waxed the boat today.
Bill Babler Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I have some water spots on the Bird Boat, you available? Recond those Nip Offs, were Eyes? http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
dtrs5kprs Posted April 28, 2012 Author Posted April 28, 2012 I have some water spots on the Bird Boat, you available? Recond those Nip Offs, were Eyes? I was this morning. Sure felt like eyes based on my formative years in IA. Usually they snip my c-rig leaders on the big flat point at the mouth of Schooner. These were mostly up towards Mill and Joe Bald.

Usually half of a zero or zinkerz (senko). Had 3 keepers on it by 8am including 18" black.
