Is anyone else excited about Cabela's coming to town? Has anyone here applied or even got a job there yet? I noticed they have the management positions filled and are taking apps for sales associates or outfitters as they refer to them.

I do like our smaller local stores but it is nice to have have the large retailers so close also since I have got their catalogs for so many years but never visited one of the stores.

I've heard it's right on track. I'm pretty excited for it since it is closer and I've always liked them a bit better than Walmart of Fishing (a.k.a. Bass Pro Shops).

The one in St. Louis is pretty nice, for a store at a mall. I'd like to hit the one in Kansas City at some point. No question it will be a great addition to the area.

I assume all the management positions were piped in long before the planned opening, but who knows. If you hear anything, post it. I can't wait to see it.

The sign out front says opening this summer and the interviews for floor staff are the 22-25 of May so I would say it is getting close.

Looking forward to being able to examine catalog items in person when the urge comes...Been a Cabela's customer for years no matter where we've lived...and we've lived all over the world.

But still will shop locally. Southtown Sporting Goods, Pack Rat., Uncle Sam's, McClellan's , Hook. Line, and Sinker all will continue to get our biz.

And so will Academy...Hope a little competition between them will result in good prices on top quality gear..

Walmart selections seem to get slimmer and slimmer..and mostly low end stuff, though that varies store to store for some reason.

I live 15 minutes from the KCK Cabelas, even bought my Ranger there.

Hopefully they will stock a more local selection at your store. Up here it is sort of "yankee-fied", if you understand. Walleye spinners, gear for up north "lifetime" trips, etc. Great if you are heading out after salmon or muskie. They have bass gear but not like at BPS. Pretty interesting firearm department though. If you watch that area you can haul some great deals.

Here is what they need to stock IMO. First this is the waterfowl capital of the world (state is anyway) so good supply of waterfowl gear. Then Deer Queer stuff lol. Onto Fishing. Bass stuff of course but then Striper and Walleye and Fly gear. If they would stock the full line of St Croix Rods including the ocean rods that would cover it for all species. On the lower end Falcon and Uglystick. I would love to see a store with Planer Boards and bottom bouncing rigs. Finally NO WOMENS CLOTHING OR SHOES!!!! Ever since I nteroduced my wife to hunting and fishing clothing and how comfortable it is thats what she wants and luckily BPS and other stores are to far for a daily stop.. Now this is to close and i can see my banks account. Wourse is her love for guns Im really scared of that She looks at Black guns and tells me they need accessorizing ( You married men know what accessorizing means)

I'm glad we're getting it and all, but doubt I'll do much buying there. It's going to be a tiny Cabela's compared to their other stores, about half the size of their KC store (100k sq ft vs 180k sq ft). So I'd guess their selection will be limited. The only other small Cabela's I've been in, the one in St. Louis, is pretty underwhelming. My least favorite of the 10+ Cabela's I've visited around the country. I swear that store is half womens clothing. I suspect this one will be, too, given where it's located.

I used to live about 40 minutes away from the one in Owatonna, MN. Shopped there a LOT as I was a huge pheasant hunter up there. I like Cabela's more for hunting stuff, Bass Pro more for fishing stuff.

You will be paying full retail on 99% of the stuff at Cabela's, except the occasional sale and the Bargain Cave. The Cave used to be great, but with Cabela's more restrictive return policy these days (and I don't blame them for that), the selection is more limited now. If I'm going to pay full retail for something, I'd rather give the business to a local shop. Sometimes the local guys will even give a guy a deal on the more expensive stuff, too.
