Members DavidB Posted May 8, 2012 Members Posted May 8, 2012 Can any of you talk about your preference for rigging tubes--open hook jighead, jighead with weedguard, or TX rigged? Why the preference? Differences in action?
Dutch Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I rig them differently depending on what where I am fishing. Open water relative gravel bottom---jig head inside with no weedguard Rocky bottom to light woody---jig head inside with weedguard Some grass---Trigged with outside bullet sinker Moss---Trigged with bell sinker inside the tube to minimize gunk on the bait
dtrs5kprs Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I did well with the stupid tube rig. Comes over and thru cover like a champ. Did not notice any real difference in hookups, but the fish were being kind and pulling back on the bait. Open hook probably hooks more fish if they are eating it softly, but a real pain if you are dragging around any wood. Stupid rig lets you keep the head inside and still fish in cover. A head inside, especially a long head like the old gitzit or chiclet style gives the tube more spiral on the fall. A big head (1/4oz and up) kind of kills the spiral anyway, falls too fast for that effect.
buckcreekmike Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 The only thing I don't like is how the plastic wears out where the tube crawls across the bottom at the jig head. Have any of you found "durable" tubes that don't do this as bad? I always used the Bass Pro Magnum Tubes, but I have seen and heard of solid head tubes, just never used them.
