MOBass Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I am fishing a tournmant out of Baxter on May19th and haven't been down there before. Is it a Corps ramp? Is there only one ramp there? I am a bit OCD about knowing where I am going and get a little antsy on tourmanent morning when I don't have things dialed in. I plan on doing a recon trip next week, but any advance information would be appreciated.
Members Golf Pro Posted May 8, 2012 Members Posted May 8, 2012 One ramp. Parking is much improved. Launching can be tight quarters if everyone doesn't cooperate. Overall though pretty good.
Members Grappling Coach Posted May 8, 2012 Members Posted May 8, 2012 I fished there about a week ago. The ramp near the marina is a corps ramp that is open and has a courtesy dock. It is a little steep. I used to struggle to get out with my old truck. The campground was closed last week with the gate closed, so the ramp in the campground is out of play. It is much flatter, which makes you back way out into the lake. Parking may be a problem if your tournament is very big.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Gets a lot of wind depending on the direction. If everyone backs down towards the lake at an angle the parking is ok. Problems are when people launch, then park in a straight line taking up what could have been 3 or 4 spots.
MOBass Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 It looks to be a 50 boat tournament and there might be another small tournament of 10 boats according to the water patrol regatta permit info. I plan to be down there plenty early and hope to avoid too much chaos in the morning.
skeeter Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 It's a Corps ramp and should accommodate two boats at a time depending on skill, or lack thereof, of driver(s). Parking and pull-up area to back in is much enlarged and improved. There is a courtesy dock. The Baxter campground is now open complete with fee-collecting gatekeepers but the less-steep, flatter ramp in the Campground is gone. The Corps removed it and moved their swim beach over where the flatter ramp used to be during their two-year-long Campground re-construction.
dblades Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Depending on where you're coming from I prefer to launch at the ramp off H, it's across the from the campground, off HWY 39 side.
