Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 There are a lot of them and they rank near trhe top in in fighting and size. With the big move towards C & R the term trash fish really isn't relevent anymore. There are still those who throw them on the bank. I can't imagine what kind of mentality it takes for some dumb butt to throw one fish on the bank to kill it and stink up the area people fish and think they have acomplished something. I hope the don't pass the ignorance down. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I hope the don't pass the ignorance down. Unfortunately that is the case. I was fishing at Squaw Creek a while back and a guy came up and started talking about the gar there. He said "when we catch them we make sure to wedge a stick in their mouths so they drown, dam pests". What a moron, probably doesn't have a clue about wildlife in general, probably just something an idiot parent or uncle passed down.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I think I am going to start making it a point when I meet other anglers to send them to this site and let them see what can be done.... Only thing about this thread I asm mad about is I am still at work!!!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
strangercreek Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 It is interesting how we have some species snobbery in the US, like Stoneroller said, they are the #1 sportfish in Europe. Granted they are not native to the US, but they are here to stay. I look at Gar the same way. I see them as an absolutely amazing fish. I am also glad to see them restoring Alligator Gar in Mingo Wildlife refuge (since we are talking about "rough fish") Weren't carp originally introduced to the US as a food source?
