Snow Fly
Received from the F of FF this date information on the spread of "Rock Snot" which is the first time I have ever heard of this algae. The algae is native to many cold water streams in the north which normally presents no problems. However is recent years has become an aggressive invader. They mention it is spreading and is now in Arkansas,West Virginia, North & South Carolina, Texas, Missouri & almost every Western mountain state. You can learn more at http://fedflyfishers.org/conInvasiveSpecies.php One thing after another attacks the environment we all love! Danoinark
Didymo has been prevalent on the White River system including Taneycome this year. Nasty stuff. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
motroutbum
to help prevent the spread, make sure you soak your boots and waders, in a pretty concentrated solution of FORMULA 409 and water. BLEACH DOESNT WORK TO KILL THE SPORES!!!!!!! There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 9, 2006 Root Admin Share Posted October 9, 2006 Not in Taneycomo... hasn't been confirmed yet anyhow. There was a report in the spring that turned out to be false. Hope it doesn't make it's way here.
Danoinark
My mistake then. I thought there had been confirmed reports on Taney...Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
snagged in outlet 3
I made the report of it in Taney in the spring and I stick by my guns. I know what it is and I saw some in the KOA hole. I knew after posting that I should have taken a piece as proof. Phil told the MDC and they reported that there was no didymo found in Taney. That is neither here nor there. I was at Bull Shoals Dam this past weekend and that stuff has covered everything that is below the low water mark. Makes the whole river look awful. Nice to see you at the Conclave Phil. Snagged. Wayne SW/MO
There's a native Algae that occurs here and that is "Snot" like, but it seems to favor warm slow waters. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
