ness Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Ness- upper stretch I put in just South of Martin City off Holmes and Kenneth. There's an old park there refferes to as old polo grounds. Float from there to Blue Ridge and take out at the MDCaccess. Its right at 5 miles. Another stretch is put in at the MDCaccess at Blue Ridge and go down to Red Bridge. Its about another 5 miles. I've run into a few other floaters on those stretches. Like I said nothing like the Ozarks but its moving water that has same characteristics of upper stretches of Ozark streams. But ultimately it gets me on the water 5 minutes from my house. Hmmm. I'll have to check that out. I know the Blue Ridge access, and I know the river butts right up against some ballfields straight down Holmes from Martin City (and, Jack's Stack!), but you're farther up than that. And that Red Bridge access is right at where the Santa Fe Trail crossed, IIRC. John

ness Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 We're sorry Chief. What do you want to talk about? John
Chief Grey Bear Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Oh, nothing. I just thought it sounded like a pretty cool idea. I think you guy's would have a great time getting out and hitting some local water together. When I lived up there, I always wanted to float the Blue myself. You wouldn't have to make it all formal with dues and meetings and such. Just meet at the Waffle House once maybe once a month, talk about a float and then do it. Just thought it sounded like fun. Wayne SW/MO Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 The old Bendix plant used to dump into Indian Creek across the road from the plant. The creek was sterile from that point down and had an eerie greenish blue coloring and was actually clearer. I think now that the clearing was from the chemicals killing algae etc. The Big Blue and Indian had LM bass, but I never caught any over 12" in either one. Unfortunately sewer overflow will always plague them both, but I made it to old age and I've swam in both of them before anyone worried about pollution. Some of you might find this interesting. http://mdc.mo.gov/landwater-care/stream-and-watershed-management/missouri-watersheds/blue-river Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
rfd515 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I wet wade the Blue River just south of Red Bridge pretty frequently. I've caught bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish and seen a lot of carp (both monsterous commons and average sized grass) on the fly. I've tried to fool some carp but they're extremely smart and very wary. I wouldn't recommend kayaking/canoeing this section unless it's following a very substantial rain as you'd be dragging a lot more than paddling.
ness Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 That was interesting Wayne. BTW, I drove down to the Kenneth Rd. access GloryDaze mentioned. I'd never been down in there. They had the gates to the little park closed, and I didn't feel like walking in there to see. It'd be a heck of a place to get rid of a body John
