skeeter Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 http://www.ksdk.com/...n-Illinois-lake Read the local comments at the bottom of the article. Not sure if these things can survive the Winter and really hope the answer is NO ! If you have seen Jeremy Wade's little show on these fish you know what they do to human males and male animals in S. E. Asia where they were intentionally transplanted. Illinois Fish & Game should learn from the Carp invasion and the Snakeheads in the Potomac and poison the entire lake and start over before these things escape.
Geoff Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Its a tropical fish from the Amazon.they cant winter over here, too cold. You can go buy one from petsmart if youd like for about 4 dollars "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
drew03cmc Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Why is pacu in parentheses? They are called pacu, not something else. It would be cool if they could winter over. Andy
Outside Bend Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Unless there's a warmwater discharge (like a power plant) to the lake, probably no cause for alarm. I'd be much more worried about getting pink-eye or an ear infection than an invasion of nutcrunching tropical fish- but those don't sell as many papers. <{{{><
Quillback Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Dang it! That lake was one of my favorite nekkid swimming holes, guess I gotta go elsewhere.
drew03cmc Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Maybe Thomas Hill would be a good spot to try some pacu? Andy
Midwest troutbum Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Here's just an idea.. make it a federal offense or biological terrorism with a min 50000 fine to have any nonnative fish within 1000 yards of a freshbody of water... then offer rewards and provide enforcement. Don't allow lawyers or attourneys to reduce minimum fines in a court of law. "In golf as in life it is the follow through that makes the difference."-unknown

You did say non-native. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Tim Smith Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 And tarpon? Why stop there? Why not just whip up a whole new batch of species. We can splice and dice genes at will these days... Let's just put a sodium pump on a great white shark and whooooo weeee....wouldn't that be a hoot! Heck. Let's just cut to the chase, put some gills on a mountain lion and be done with it. I may even buy a new landing net.
