jdmidwest Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 We finally had our first substantial rain today since Feb. My gauges showed around 3", it came hard and fast with a strong wind. Sunday's storm had dropped 1/4", enough to wet the garden so I could till yesterday. Today's rain washed out alot of topsoil. The winds layed over my pole beans and toppled 2 grape tomato vines. It was too late for my sweet corn, I cut the remainder of the shriveled up stuff down yesterday along with a few dying squash vines. Cypress trees turned brown last week and dropped their needles. Poplars turned yellow and lost their leaves. Yard has been brown for a month, last time I mowed was May 13. Now we have HUMIDITY, something I really did not miss. My hygrometer was showing around 28% all last week. I now feel comfortable leaving home tomorrow knowing my idiot neighbor will not burn my house down with his firework display. Wayne SW/MO Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Lucky you, wish I could say the same. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
moguy1973 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Thought we were going to get some here in south STL yesterday but it stayed south and west of our place and we didn't get a drop. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Quillback Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 No rain here either, last night the TV weather guesser was predicting rain next week - I think he's just saying it to get people to watch the forecast.
jdmidwest Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Grass is greener this morning and starting to perk up. Might even get to use the mower I bought back in May this week. Not looking forward to the 107 predicted on Friday. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
