trizkid Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Heading down next week, anyone been on the river lately? TrIzzout
Smalliebigs Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 See my report in Smallmouth talk......very low but, you can do it, I just would never do it on a weekend.
Smalliebigs Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Triz, my buddy floated yesterday from above Lesterville bridge by a mile and took out at Riversedge campground. He floated in a solo canoe and drug just about every riffle but he is a big dude....6'3'' 235. he did really well even caught a 19.5 that weighed 3.6 on his digital scale, although he caught it on a live crawdad. He did catch quite a few on some soft plastics creature baits, texas rigged in any moving water. I think you can still do really well if you don't mind getting out of your vessle and walking yourself thru some of the riffles????.....it's up too you
Members Thomas Rogers Posted July 16, 2012 Members Posted July 16, 2012 I have floated the the black three times this month all were over night trips from rivers edge to K bridge with loaded canoe 2 people and camping gear several rifles I had to get out to navigate but honestly not to bad in my opinion the party traffic is slow so it makes the trip really enjoyable fishing has been solid with lots of smallies between 10 to 15 inch range with two over 18' and 2 pounds + all caught on either crank bait it the middle of the day or plum colored plastics
smallmouthjoe Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I was thinking of hitting the Black this weekend and was wondering about the float from Lesterville to HWYK. I've never been on this river before and was wondering if leaving a car at HWY K access is ok. I always feel the need to ask on unfamilar rivers. Thanks,
MOsmallies Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 There is a nice parking lot basically right on the downstream side of Highway K that you can safely park. There's a park and camping spots there. If you can have someone drop you off at the Yellow Smile early, you can basically start where the party-ers take out and not have to deal with them. Lesterville to Yellow Smile is about 5 miles, so Yellow Smile to K is about 10-11 miles. Let us know how you do, if you do go! Paul MOsmallies
