jdmidwest Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 This one rolled out from under a tree root this afternoon,. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
laker67 Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Good fish JD, and it does not look as if she has missed many meals.

Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Did it come out of that skinny water behind you ? Wow. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
jdmidwest Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Actually, I rolled it out from under a log at the end of the second island below dam 3. Must have been a breeder that they let loose. It was long gone before I found it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
ozark trout fisher Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Now what are you doing admitting that you didn't catch the thing? I don't have any idea what the water temps are even like on the Spring, but I wonder if that's what killed it. Of course you don't need to look much past old age for an explanation when a fish is that old.
laker67 Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 He could have seen JD and died of fright. Just kidding JD.
jdmidwest Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Every July, they clean out some of the brood stock in the hatchery and release them in the river. This may be one of them. I heard several reports of large trout being caught on Friday. Unfortunately, this one had started to fester when I found him in about knee deep water on a shallow run. Who knows what killed it. Fishing was slow again this weekend, most were small. I did see someone with an 19 and 18 lb walleye caught in the area near the Bayou. Nice fish.
