woodman
Using free plans I decided to build the 7yr. old grandson a kayak.... http://yostwerks.com/Kidarka.html But instead of a Skin on Frame I'm building it out of 1/8'' Baltic birch plywood...One 5'X5' sheet should do it.... The frames attached to the stifback... I added 1/2'' strips to increase the beam to 20'' and to be able to mark the cardboard templates... The bow is the tricky part... mic
Probably a stupid questions, but how does a birch plywood kayak survive a rocky riffle?
woodman
Well the same as a cedar boat reinforced with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin...the final coats on the bottom is a mixture of graphite powder and epoxy...which prevents rocks from grabing and gouging.....Wood boats are tough... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/

woodman
Glassed the outside.... Mixed graphite powder in the epoxy for the fill coats.... A black hull with a tan skinned deck should look good Johnsfolly 1 http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
