Members BIGTED1 Posted July 22, 2012 Members Posted July 22, 2012 Hello, First time to the Gasconade coming up this weekend and was hoping I could get some insight on the section from Rollins Ferry to Pointer's Creek. How much traffic on this section of the river? I have been reading that parts of the river sometimes have a lot of jet boat traffic. I am used to the solitude of the Little Niangua and am hoping for a nice quite float and to do some fishing. How is the fishing on this section of river? Looking to catch some smallys and cats. What is the river level and scenery like? I realize water is low everywhere, but am hoping there is not a lot of dragging. I'ver heard the term "frog water" which I assume is stagnant sections of the river. Is there a lot on this section? Is there another section of the river that anyone would reccomend either for it's fishing, scenery, or solitude? I am staying near Rich Fountain, but would be willing to travel if there was a nearby section that was better. Excited to be getting out on the water!!
UnCivE Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 I'm not the person to ask on the lower gasconade, as I've never fished it. The water won't be too low to kayak, but it will be low enough to keep the traffic to a minimum. The area I fish (way further up) has been relatively deserted in the midst of the drought. Hasn't stopped me from catchin fish though. This MAY be a good time to try fishin the special regulations area from Riddle Bridge to Jerome... (18" minimum). It's got some really nice scenery, and some big fish live there if you can catch em. That'd put you at putting in 45 miles from where you're stayin. Anyway, whatever you decide, good luck and let us know how you do!
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 As for a comparison to the Lil'Niangua, the stretch between competition and Falcon is similar in size and remoteness to the Lil'Ni with way better fishing and scenery to boot. The deep hole at Mayfield spring and several other bluff holes up that way even have a decent population of eating sized channel cat if that turns ya on.
Seth Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Rollins Ferry to Pointers Creek gets pounded pretty hard with pleasure jetters. Rollings Ferry is the closest ramp to Belle, MO and it's a nice ramp so a lot of people put in there. I would head down river for fishing. The last tournament we had out of Rollins Ferry was tough for the guys fishing up from the ramp but decent for the guys that went down.
