Members Crawbug Posted August 14, 2012 Members Posted August 14, 2012 Bill - Thanks so much for all of the info you share. I have have been reading the Forum daily for a couple of years now and this is my 1st post. I grew up on Needle's Eye point at my family's cabin and, to this day, have never caught a walleye. I will be at the cabin for the next week and, based on what I've been reading, I have made catching my 1st walleye the #1 priority of this summer's Table Rock vacation. My question is: what is your preferred rigging method for drop shotting walleyes with crawlers? Are you just using a conventional drop shot rig with the weight below the hook and stickin the end of a squirmy crawler on there??? What size hooks work best? A picture of the perfect crawler rig would be a huge help! Thanks, Craig B.
Tfsh4bass Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Fished Sunday around the Baxter area from 12-8pm and did pretty good. Caught a ton of small spots in the 25-30ft range on drop shot in the middle of pockets and bays...really weren't on anything just roaming around and when you got on a school it was every drop. Around 6 I moved up and burned a blade on transition banks and was surprised by the shad that were up there. Caught 8 doing that including some good keepers...made me think I should have fished a little shallower sooner but just happy it wasn't a hundred.
rps Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Crawbug: If Bill replies, ignore me and pay attention to him. If not, rig your drop shot per the usual with a #4 or 2 Owner octapus hook. Put the hook point through the nose and fish it. Drop shot crawlers don't need jigging like spoons. Wait for the fish to "load" before you sweep the hook into the fish. You aren't trying so much to set the hook as to take the stretch out of the line and let the hook work for you. Catch a good one.
Quillback Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Me and Jeb may be out there tomorrow also, probably around the Big M area, still thinking about where to go, TR, Beaver, one of the Bella Vista lakes?
techo Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I know this is going to surprise many of you but we will probably put in at Aunt's Creek. Hoping for rain without the lightening! Tim Carpenter
