First time fishing the Diamond City portion of the lake. We targeted walleye with the main focus being flats between Elbow and Shoal Creeks...but we did fish a point or two. Target depth was 23-30 fow, but we did wander out to 40 fow on occasion. Managed 2 shorts and one that went just under 23". Caught several quality bass and bluegill...along with a cat. Most fish (and all walleye) came on bottom bouncers, with a few bass caught trolling cranks and on jigging spoons.

Speaking of jigging spoons, I am curious what you all use for rod/reel/line when jigging with spoons? I had one break off which made me think I may be a bit on the light side. Was using a medium action rod and a spinning reel with 8 pound mono.

As has been mentioned in other threads, we marked a lot of fish around 24' down or so. Water temp averaged around 81 degrees.

Jason, we usually use baitcasting equipment around here. I like to spool up with 12lb. Seaguar flourcarbon line on a 6'9" med. heavy rod with a fast tip. And a high speed reel, this usually does the trick on the lakes around here for bass and walleye. Hope this helps!

What he said. I use YoZuri mono/FC hybrid and my 7' fast action jig rod. I've recently switched to War Eagle spoons that have a swivel built in.

I use Med Heavy Fast Tip Baitcasters with 15-20 lb line. Sometimes Fluro and sometimes Co-poly. I'll drop shot with 6 or 8 lb copoly, but when spooning I'm not going any lighter than 12 lb and 9 out of 10 times go 15 or more.

6 foot fast action gloomis spinning rod, with 2500 series stradic with 8 or 10 lb smoke fireline. Add a 2 or so foot 10lb flouro leader with swivel.

Depends on the spoon size and situation. If I am fishing a 1/4 or 1/2 ounce spoon in open water I would drop to 12 fluro, but if I am fishing cover, which I almost always am, I always use a 1/2 ounce plus spoon and I have found I can get away with 15 to 17 mono doing that.

I use med heavy baitcaster rods with a fast action tip 5 1/2'- 6'. I mostly use a reel with a flipping switch spooled with 8/2 to 15/4 high visibility braid. I tie on a #12 barrel swivel and about 18" of 12# fluorocarbon and a Berkley cross lock snap. I mostly only fish my own handmade jigging spoons with a 2X-4X barbless treble hook in a 1/2 - 1 1/2 OZ. When fishing lighter spoons of 1/8 - 1/4 OZ. I use the same tackle I use for jigs & grubs 6'-7' med action spinning rod with 6# Stealth braid and 8# floro leader with the same swivel and snap set up.

I'm with Mike Worley on this one on the bait caster " Abu Garcia black max combo" is what I use and braid the perfect set up for jigging and harness troll'in -- I can really feel those finicky bites and cheaper on the wallet than most combs

Thanks for the advice everyone! Not sure I can afford a new rod/reel combo at this point, but I do have a combo similar to what Mike suggested that I had been using for bottom bouncers. I may give that a shot with braid and a flouro leader.
