Jeff thanks for the post and your Blog, I check it often and like it. IT makes me a bit too hungry at times. I have a friend in the Minnesota part of the driftless and he invited me to come up. Might just have to,

Hey, smarty pants -- cut me some slack, I've been busy!

BTW -- I've caught wild browns in the Driftless area -- so that's no news to me.

Slack granted. Maybe when your done reading it we should start a thread about the book. Compare the progress of the conservation movement from the time the book was written and now. Aldo Leapold's description of the Colorado River delta when he roamed the area and it's current state should jerk a tear out of any outdoorsman with a heart.

I was there in June and had a great time. I stayed at the Old Hospital Lodge in Highlandville. Absolutely great place to stay - the owner Paul is a nice guy who can give you tips on where to go and what to use. The best part is the price - $55 per night single occupancy for a room with a full kitchen. Had an absolute blast with the 3-wt and size 16 nymphs. The streams I fished, North and South Bear Creeks, and Waterloo, were chock full of trout, and I had the place mostly to myself.

Be prepared to do some walking and bushwhacking - the streams are small and have lots of tall grass and trees around in the summer, but unlike the Ozarks, there is nothing to get too concerned about (no poison ivy, ticks, chiggers, snakes).
