When Fishing/hiking, Do You Carry A Handgun?

The good thing about CCW, it is elective and a choice. If you don't want to or don't feel comfortable doing it, you don't have to. For those that want to, they can. CCW backers are not out "forcing" anyone to carry if they don't want to.

Violent Crime is on the decrease since more citizens have armed themselves, legally, thru a popular vote in an election process.

There have not been any shootouts on the streets that I am aware of by armed citizens trying to solve a point like the old west.

Nobody in their right mind "dreams" of a massacre like the theater incident, it is a nightmare to most civilized people.

Most CCW certified individuals do not really carry on a daily basis. But they have been thru a training course and certified, so they are more educated on firearms than they were before. They are certainly more educated than the ones that have not.

The world is not a nice place, and bad guys don't always lurk around after midnight in dark alleys. Most major violent crime in the past few years has taken place in broad daylight or a public place that has been deemed safe enough that they prohibit the personal carry of self defense weapons. Schools, theaters, colleges, political gatherings, and even a military base.

Sorry I had to go back and find the question. There probably numerous ways to stop them. But the best way was in Deliverance. That was awesome.

Me myself? I'd just shoot them.

Why don't you take this cat on a MFU trip and feed him some Unicorn. He needs some calming. Probably couldn't find the mustard though.

Question: How do you stop a bad guy using a deadly weapon intent on doing you harm?

You use whatever means available at the time to stop the threat.

I don't know that I would go that far. It is really not much of a training course. In my opinion anyway. I would even suspect that if retested in 30 days, without a refresher, most would flunk. And really, is standing 15 feet from the target really shooting??

I'll agree, it is better than nothing for city dwellers, but hell, I say repeal it and let everyone carry anywhere and anytime! On the hip on in the coat.

Well said.

Statistically defensive shootings happen within less than 10 feet and last for an average of 3 rounds fired.

I agree, repeal it.

WWJD?

See if I can stir the pot more

If you have not taken the course, how do you know what is in it?

How do you stop the bad guy intent on doing you harm?

That's a loaded question (pardon the pun). Of course you do whatever you can. But the other side of the question is, how likely is that to happen and how likely is it that you'll be able to stop him? First of all, for those outside high crime areas, the chances of coming up against that situation are very small. Second, the chances of being able to get the gun out, shoot it accurately, and just be in a situation where you'll be able to do it are also pretty slim. Two unlikely things, one multiplying the other. Which is why I don't carry. I have no problem if you do as long as you're responsible about it. Only you can decide whether the real hassles and responsibilities of carrying are justified by the very slim chance that you'll need it and be able to use it effectively.

And by the way, if I had to live or work in a high crime area, I'd be carrying and I'd be spending a lot of time making sure I could shoot accurately under lots of different situations. I love shooting handguns, anyway.
