......... had 1 weekend from now till xmas to fish Taney for browns( never have fished Taney in the fall) and had to book it now.. when would that be??

I know there is no magic book to get this answer in but i'm hopeing some of u guys that have fished there for years can help me out. Thanks

Typically in october you will have less generation and fewer browns. Most will have had the spawning urge scared right out of them from the wading masses. In november you will have greater numbers but fewer opportunities because of the generation and less water for the wading angler. Its a crap shoot at best. When you go, spend as much time on the water as possible and be on guard for that one opportunity at a large fish.

Early October this year, Fish the higher water from a boat, the more generation for longer the better IMO. Throw big jigs when they are running all units.

You'd be surprised how many browns are up in November... and the crowds are less.

We haven't had a "typical" fall season in 3 years.

Seriously... depends if you want to fight crowds or fish. October is crowded. May be a little more fish but November is very good too.

I see the largest browns in September though.

Phil is right about the larger fish in september. The large males actually start coming up right about now but only during times of generation. It has always been a pre spawn ritual for the larger males. If you are wading, you only have a short window of opportunity. About an hour after generation starts, they head back to the main lake. In september a few will start holding over after the water goes down. I know nothing of your chances in a boat, my info is only good if you are wading.

Wadeing info is what i'm interested in. Lookin at last week in oct but Nov sounds good also. Keep the opinions coming. I can't decide. Has there been any movement with the browns yet?

Your time frame looks good. By thanksgiving it will be all over for the browns. Most will have departed to the main lake before then. Rainbows will still be good until january. I think rr Tim has noticed some brown activity last week. A few small ones are showing up at night.

There are always some there, but the big ones move, for example I caught two at night about a month ago, last July another forum member I fish withcaght a thirty incher at night.
