Tim Smith Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 The Elk are starting to harem and bugle at Rocky Mountain National Park. http://brooksmith.blogspot.com/2012/09/fall-upon-us-harems-and-bugles.html The fighting won't begin for a while, but the bulls are getting testy. They're pretty awesome animals. Is it really such an awful thing to want them back in Missouri??
KCRIVERRAT Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 No it's not. I love the Rockies in September. Aspens are turning and it's beautiful. I've seen plenty of Elk out there and it's awesome. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Jerry Rapp Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 no again. An Elk in the middle of the road is 3 or 4 times worse than hitting a deer. But, MDC just shoots them when they leave the reservation so that is a non point. LOL! Lots of state tax dollars spent monitoring those elk and restocking them. It makes common sense to maybe spend state money more wisely when the entire USA is in a fiscal crisis. If the state had excess dollars, LMAO off again, then maybe Elk could be on the list to spend money on. I know you hate my common sense facts, so just fire away with your response. I made my point so maybe others will start thinking some outside the box.

Jerry Rapp Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 huh KC? Spending money unwisely has ruined many people, cities, countries, etc.
Chief Grey Bear Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Just because you are not in favor does not constitute it being unwise. I never understood that restoring what we destroyed as being a bad thing. I can see how the expense could be too great for a reintroduction and that is indeed a judgement call... ...although if you get enough of these to hunt, I gotta question which side of the balance sheet that program will fall upon. There were about 100 people in the park yesterday just to get a look at these. (Edit: There were 100 people standing there next to me when I took those pictures. There were probably several thousand people in the park and several hundred of them there to see the elk. Colorado makes about 90K a year on elk tags. I would be interested to see the balance sheet on the MO introduction.)
Jerry Rapp Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 lots of money for look sees for MO, while smallmouth anglers keep complaining about gig marks in smallies. This is just a bottom of the taxpayer's rung on the ladder, but I hope you see what I am saying. Taxpayers bucks can be much better.
ColdWaterFshr Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Elk in RMNP makes sense. Trying to bring them back in Missouri? . . . . sentimental feel-good waste of money, a purely PR mission from the good intending folks at MDC. Good on them for trying, but lets not disguise it as anything less that a terrible waste of taxpayer money. Stay in the Peck you durn Elk. We got radio collars on ya and yull be shot on sight if you wander out of the pen! Chief -- lots of things we destroyed but cannot bring back. Tear down all the dams if we want to get serious about it. I'd like my rivers back.
Chief Grey Bear Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Not me. Don't want them lake idiots on the rivers.
