Members larryb Posted September 18, 2012 Members Posted September 18, 2012 Just wondering if anything has changed with the recent weather. We have planned for a fall Buffalo trip for months but were discouraged by many due to the water levels. Before we make our final plans elsewhere, likely Eleven Point, just wanted to check in. Appreciate information from those in the area. Thanks.
jdmidwest Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I am going to the Buffalo River this weekend for a jetboat smallie fishing trip. Buffalo River in Tennessee that is. Reports are that it is fishing good and has plenty of water. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Al Agnew Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Lower Buffalo is flowing 80 cfs as I type this. You need at least 100 cfs to make for floating without a lot of dragging and scraping bottom. Just watch the gauge at Harriet, and if it's flowing over 100 cfs when you are ready to head down that way, it's doable. I would suggest, however, doing the stretch from St. Joe to Buffalo Point, rather than Buffalo Point on down, if the water is still flowing 80-120 cfs. There is no less water in the upper stretch than there is in the lower end during low water conditions, and the riffles tend to be a little narrower in the upper stretch, so they are more easily floatable. No matter what, however, expect a lot of flat water and shallow riffles unless the flow is greater than 150 or 200 cfs.
